Secondary School Music Ensemble Auditions

Over the course of this week, students have presented auditions to MICs of Music Ensembles, for possible selection into various Advanced Music Ensembles. Commendations to all students who prepared for these auditions, in playing solo repertoire, presenting technical skills and working through sight reading exercises. These results of these auditions will be published in Note Day in Week 9.

Auditions for other Small Ensembles, inclusive of Chamber Music, Jazz Vocals and Advanced Guitar Ensemble, will be held throughout Term 3.

Redlands Composition Competition

The Music Department is pleased to announce the 2020 Music Composition Competition. This creative opportunity is designed for any aspiring young composer in Yrs 7-12 who is currently enrolled in the either the Academic Music program, Cocurricular Music Ensembles program or Extra Subjects program. Students are encouraged to continue developing original works for submission by Friday 14 August (Term 3). Application forms can be downloaded from Redlands Pulse.

Yr 12 Practical Trials – Monday 22 June

Students enrolled in Higher School Certificate Music 1, Music 2 and Music Extension courses will be presenting practical work as part of the Yr 12 Practical Trials this Monday 22 June. These trials will be marked by two experienced HSC markers and will form part of the students’ final course results.

Academic Music

The Department remains committed to supporting the Yr 12 Higher School Certificate and International Baccalaureate courses as students prepare for all major practical works and assessments. We will continue to provide access to tuition rooms when available for independent practising and composing. Session times can be booked directly through Music Administration by emailing seniormusic@redlands.nsw.edu.au

On-Campus Learning Weeks 8 and 9

Private Music Tuition and Music Ensembles Program

For the remainder of this term, students will continue with the current arrangements for Private Music tuition classes (P-12). Instrumental Music Ensembles will similarly continue in the Secondary School, facilitated through a range of smaller group settings and sectional rehearsals for Guitar Ensembles, Strings Ensembles, Concert Bands and Jazz Bands. It is important to note, that all Choral and Group singing experiences are currently under review and these sessions will continue to be delivered and resourced through our online platforms, where students will engage independently with provided resources and instruction materials. The Piano Ensemble and Chamber Music program will also continue to be delivered through online platforms.

Hygiene in the Music Setting

As part of our return to group settings, this has been a well-considered aspect of our planning and students involved in group instruction will follow the guidelines through the spreading out of rehearsals, utilising larger areas and outdoor learning spaces to promote distancing, where possible. Regular cleaning and disinfecting of musical equipment and resources will be undertaken daily.

Extra-Subjects Music (Individual Tuition and Groups)

For the delivery of Private Music instruction, individual lessons will continue with the original 4 week Rotational Schedules issued in Term 1.

Junior School Music Ensembles (Under Review)

For the remainder of this time, all Junior School Music Ensembles will continue to be delivered through Google Classroom (Yrs 3-6) in providing students with learning resources to work independently at home. Please note, Preparatory Choir and Preparatory Strings will not be running at this stage.
