Redlands Friends of Music Annual General Meeting 2019
The Music community is invited to the Friends of Music Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 23 October commencing with pre-meeting refreshments from 5.30pm in the Upper Music Gallery. Our guest presenter for will be Mr Nicholas Russoniello who will be performing one of his own solo compositions for saxophone and talking to parents about his journey as an artist, along with some useful tips for encouraging and supporting practise at home. Nick Russoniello (pictured above), one of Australia’s most dynamic young artists, enjoys an exciting and varied performance career both in Australia and abroad. Nick has been the recipient of a number of major awards including the 2011 ABC Symphony Australia Young Performer of the Year and the 2013 Fine Music Kruger Scholarship. Nick has appeared as a soloist with the Adelaide, Queensland, Melbourne, Sydney Symphony Orchestras and The Metropolitan Orchestra. He has been guest with many of the nation’s leading chamber music groups including the Acacia Quartet, Omega Ensemble and the Sydney Camerata Quartet.
Nick appears regularly as a member of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and has appeared with the Australian World Orchestra and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra. Nick is a sought-after chamber musician and performs as a member of Continuum Sax (Australia’s foremost saxophone quartet), Duo Histoire (with guitarist Murilo Tanouye). In 2014 Nick released his debut solo album Between Worlds and undertook a national tour. In 2017 Duo Histoire released their second studio album Autumn/Winter and appeared as soloists with The Metropolitan Orchestra. Both these albums can be regularly heard on ABC Classic FM and Fine Music 102.5.
Alongside his performance achievements Nick’s original compositions for saxophone have been performed by saxophonists around the world. In 2019 Nick will be premiering new compositions with The Golden Age Quartet, appearing as a soloist with the Fellows of The Sydney Symphony Orchestra and presenting his music at the Royal College of Music, London. Nick is a Yamaha Australia Artist a D’addario Woodwind Artist and an Associate Artist of The Australian Music Centre.
Senior Instrumental Competition
The Music Department invites you to the Senior Instrumental Competition on Monday 21 October commencing at 6.00pm in the Edwards Auditorium.
Our Guest adjudicator for the competition is Dr Jeanell Carrigan, who is currently an Associate Professor at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. She has performed throughout Australia and Europe as a soloist, chamber musician and collaborative duo partner. Her area of research is Australian solo repertoire and more recently music composed by early 20th century Australian women composers. In May 2019 she released her 23rd CD of Australian solo piano and chamber works. Publications include several books, most recently, Composing Against The Tide and over 20 critical editions of piano and chamber music written by Australian women.
Music Captains 2020
The Music Department would like to acknowledge the outstanding contributions of 2019 Music Captains Matilda Rose Williams (Captain of Choirs), Dan Feng Zhao (Captain of Strings), Tara Sahagian (Captain of Bands) and Ilan Labouze (Captain of Small Ensembles). These four students, along with many of our other Yr 12 musicians, have been proactive leaders within their respective ensembles and have provided excellent mentorship to many students throughout this year. In building on the positive influence and contributions these Music Captains have made to the Ensembles program, the Music Department is pleased to announce and welcome our new Music Captains and leaders who will continue to guide musicians and play a key role in leading the Cocurricular Music Ensembles programs into 2020.
Captain of Bands – Luke Brown
Captain of Bands is associated with ensembles spanning from Yrs 3 to 12. These ensembles include Training Band, Junior Concert Band, Intermediate Concert Band and Advanced Concert Band.
Captain of Strings – Cara Eccleston
Captain of Strings is associated with ensembles spanning from Kindergarten to Yr 12. These ensembles include Preparatory Strings, Junior Strings, Intermediate Strings, Advanced Strings, String Orchestra and Chamber Ensembles.
Captain of Choirs – Tobias Page
Captain of Choirs is associated with ensembles spanning from Kindergarten to Yr 12. These ensembles include Preparatory Choir, Junior Choir, Junior Voices, Intermediate Choir, Advanced Choir and Jazz Vocal Ensemble.
Captain of Small Ensembles – Emily Colvin
Captain of Bands is associated with ensembles spanning from Yrs 3 to 12. These ensembles include Junior Guitar Ensemble, Intermediate Guitar Ensemble, Advanced Guitar Ensemble, Junior Jazz Band, Intermediate Jazz Band and Stage Band.
Junior and Senior Campus Lunchtime Concerts Series
The Music community is invited to attend the Private Music Tuition Studio Concerts throughout Term 4. The schedule of Studio Concerts will be released at the end of Week 1. Please save the following dates for the Lunchtime Concerts Series.

Ensemble Participation, Attendance and Punctuality at Rehearsals
Many ensembles are currently rehearsing and preparing repertoire for end of year events. A reminder that regular, punctual attendance at all Music Ensemble rehearsals is imperative as students are underway in preparing for end of year events. All ensembles commenced on Monday 14 October. Yrs 8-10 Music Elective Soiree Program
Parents and friends are invited to the Yrs 8-10 Music Elective Soiree’s this term, in celebrating the achievements of students enrolled in the Music Curriculum program. This evening concert represents the practical assessment component of the students’ performance studies. Please refer to upcoming events on Redlands Pulse for details of these Evening Concerts.
