Meet the Music Series 1

As part of the Curriculum Music Program, last Thursday evening Yr 9 and 10 students had the unique opportunity to attend Meet the Music Series 1, presented by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. This concert showcased two significant orchestral works, Amériques (1929) by Varèse and the Australian premiere of Marsalis The Jungle, Symphony No. 4 composed by Marsalis. As a Parisian in America, Edgard Varèse was entranced by the tumultuous soundscape of New York and his composition Amériques is a portrait of the city in all its thrilling chaos. In matching the intensity of city life, Wynton Marsalis, presented his modern symphony, where Jazz Band meets orchestra, as musicians explored the exciting sounds of New York, from Spanish Harlem to Wall Street. Marsalis, who performed alongside his orchestra in this concert is regarded as the epitome of American creativity and modern music.

Instrument Insurance

School hired instruments must be included on personal home and contents insurance as Redlands cannot be held responsible for instruments which are lost, stolen or damaged. As all instruments are very fragile, we ask for your assistance in ensuring that students do not let other children play with their instrument, instruments are kept in a safe place and out of extreme temperatures (ie. hot car) and are not left out of their case when not in use.

Daily Instrument Storage Arrangements

Monday

On a Monday morning cello (only) students are to bring their instruments for storage in the purpose-built cupboards in the Parkes Building corridor.
