Redlands Instrumental Competition
The annual Redlands Instrumental Competition was held in the Edwards Auditorium last Monday night, showcasing highly sophisticated levels of music performance that explored a wide variety of musical styles and performance contexts. The skills of students in all three divisions was outstanding and a credit to the instrumental playing ability of each finalist and the guidance provided by their private Music tutors. Awards were:

The Music Department would like to acknowledge the superb accompanying of Ms Tomomi Takahashi and Mr Zhi-Hao Li, who have supported the finalists in preparing for this competition. Our appreciation is also extended to Ms Sarah McGarry who presented finalists with certificates and awarded Division Winners and Runners Up with trophies and medallions. Adjudicating the competition this year was Ms Anna McMichael, Co-Artistic Director of the Tyalgum Music Festival, whose feedback to the students was positive and enriching.
Music Community Working Bee
Last Saturday, the Friends of Music Committee hosted the annual Music Community Working Bee, which concentrated on cataloguing the Music ensemble scores into the new Music Library storage units. The Music Department would like to thank all parents and staff who assisted on the day in continuing to develop this excellent resource for teachers and conductors. Particular thanks are extended to Friends of Music President, Mrs Felicity Gates, for overseeing and managing this parent gathering.

Private Music Studio Concerts
Series 2
The Music Department will be hosting the Semester 2 Private Music Studio Concerts throughout this term. These informal performances are an opportunity for students to demonstrate what they have been learning during private lessons throughout the year. Concerts commence from Week 4 and Music tutors will be in contact with students and parents to notify them of their individual Studio Concert date, time and location.

Ensemble Participation, Attendance and Punctuality at Rehearsals
Many ensembles are currently rehearsing and preparing repertoire for end of year events. A reminder that regular, punctual attendance at all Music Ensemble rehearsals is imperative as students are underway in preparing for end of year events. In the event of absence, please email juniormusic@redlands.nsw.edu.au for Junior Campus Ensembles and seniormusic@redlands.nsw.edu.au for Secondary Campus Ensembles.
2018 Private Music Tuition
If your child is leaving Redlands or you wish to discontinue lessons, please complete and return a Notice of Change Form available on Redlands Pulse or Music Reception. It is important to be aware that there is a $200 late/administration fee for any discontinuations received after Monday 12 November 2018.
Senior Campus
Yrs 8-10 Music Elective Soiree Program
Parents and friends are invited to the Yrs 8-10 Music Elective Soirees in Term 4. Please mark these dates in your calendar in listening to the superb work of students enrolled in the Music Curriculum Program. Please refer to upcoming events on Redlands Pulse for details of these Evening Concerts.
Speech Day and Carols Rehearsals
Throughout Term 4, students involved in Secondary Music Ensembles will be concentrating on rehearsing for Rock in the Quad, Senior Carols Service and/or the Annual Speech Day/Night. New and exciting challenging repertoire has been introduced, covering a wide range of performance styles. With rehearsals underway and selected for these events, it is essential that all students approach these rehearsals with a sense of excitement and in having prepared this repertoire at home. Rehearsals will continue as planned throughout the examination period. Absence due to camp and/or illness will be the only excepted reason for non-attendance. It is essential that you the Secondary School Music Office if you are unable to attend any rehearsal with a note/email from your parent/guardian. This leave will then be discussed and approved by the Coordinator of Music.
Junior Campus
Junior Rock in the Quad
The Junior Rock in the Quad will be held next Tuesday 30 October as part of the Yr 6 Student Market. The Music Department welcomes all members of the school community to come along and support the students.
Junior Concert Band 2019
Auditions for students wishing to involved in Junior Concert Band 2019 will take place on Tuesday morning, Week 4. Students currently in Junior Concert Band are not required to re-audition. Please contact the Junior Music Office should you require any further information.
2019 Musicianship Classes
Enrolments are now open to students who are currently learning an instrument and who would like to further extend their knowledge of Music Theory. They are encouraged to join the Musicianship class on Tuesday mornings (7.30am-8.15am).
