P-12 Ensemble Expectations Reminder
As we approach the end of year events, it is a good time to check in with your child regarding their regular practice and preparation for cocurricular ensembles. With four weeks to go, it is essential that we are consistent in our messaging of high expectations combined with high levels of support. With daily practice, our students can achieve so much! Ensuring that this practice is inclusive of their ensemble repertoire as well as personal pieces is also important.
We also are reminding students that they must bring all equipment to rehearsals, including instrument, music, pencils and other required equipment. It may be helpful to set reminders or alarms the night before for students to remember this. Your support in helping your child succeed and develop their independence in music ensembles is invaluable.

MIP Parent Information Session: Year 4 2024
Yesterday we held an information session for Year 4 2024 parents regarding the Music Instrumental Program (MIP). It was a wonderful forum to clarify any burning questions about our budding music students, and parents can find the presentation linked here. We encourage parents to reach out to Ms Katherine Moses should you have any questions.
K-6 Strings Concert
All String Ensembles on the Junior Campus are busily preparing for our annual Strings showcase This coming Monday. Year 2 Strings, Prep Strings, Year 3 Strings, Training Strings and Junior Strings will all perform repertoire they have been learning throughout Semester 2, and there will even be a special guest performance from our elite Senior Strings, all the way from the Senior Campus! We warmly welcome parents and guests to attend this concert on Monday 6 November at 2pm in Dunnet Hall.
MIP Concert
There aren’t many performances you can go to where 225 students perform…but the MIP concert is one of them! Every student in Yrs 4 & 5 will showcase their MIP learning from throughout the year as they perform in their instrumental groups. We invite parents and guests to come along and witness the wonderful growth of our MIP musicians on Thursday 9 November at 2pm in Dunnet Hall.

Symphony Orchestra – New Ensemble for 2024
We’re excited to introduce the Symphony Orchestra, an extension ensemble that will rehearse weekly and will be integrated into our Senior Strings program. Unlike the previous “Festival Orchestra,” this new orchestra is not just brought together for special events but will be a consistent part of our school’s musical landscape.
The Symphony Orchestra will rehearse from 3.30 – 4.15pm every Monday, starting Week 3, Term 1 2024.
The aims of the Symphony Orchestra are to:
- Create an authentic orchestral experience for our students
- Provide a weekly space for auditioned Brass, Woodwind, and Percussion players to collaborate with Combined Senior Strings.
- Explore a variety of previously inaccessible orchestral repertoire
We’re inviting Brass, Woodwind, and Percussion players to audition for this extension ensemble. These players will join the Combined Senior Strings weekly. Following their departure, Intermediate and Advanced Strings will continue to rehearse until 5.00pm.
For more information, interested students should check audition information found on the Music Department Audition iLearn course.
Auditions Due: 5.00pm Friday 24 November, Wk 7 Term 4
2024 Repertoire Student Survey – Music Captains
It’s not too late for students to suggest repertoire for next year! The Repertoire Suggestions Survey brought to you by the 2024 Music Captains for Senior Music students. They’ve been working hard to make sure student voice is included as part of how we shape our future performances. We are looking for student input for next year’s Senior Music Festival, Kaleidoscope, and other performances throughout year.
Students – ready to share your ideas? Click the link below and let your voice be heard!
Inaugural Senior Music Festival Composition Competition
A reminder that for the first time ever, we will feature student composition at the 2024 Senior Music Festival, written for our students. We know music isn’t just about performing, and we are so excited to see how our talented student composers interpret this theme.

Senior Campus Studio Concerts
The Senior Campus Studio Concerts will be held in Weeks 6 and 7. Students are working hard to be ready for these performances. These lunchtime concerts offer a relaxed opportunity for students having private lessons at Redlands to share their journey with a supportive audience of family and friends. Please see below schedule. Parents and guests visiting the Secondary Campus for these concerts are asked to go directly to the John Roberts Centre from the Gerard St Gate, and to sign in and out at Music Reception. Our Music Tutors will be in touch with the parents/carers of all students performing at these concerts to invite them to attend.
