Friends of Music AGM Next Week – Tuesday 17 November

Are you interested in being more involved with Music at Redlands? Friends of Music are holding an AGM next week! Please see the below invitation. 

We are delighted to be holding the Friends of Music Annual General Meeting next Tuesday 17 October and hope you will be able to join us in the Edwards Auditorium (Senior Campus) from 6:30pm. 

This is a wonderful opportunity to not only reflect on the year that was but also learn about the planned activities for 2024. This is also when the 2023-2024 committee is elected so if you would like to get involved with events including the Senior Music Festival, Junior Musical Festival and the Music Awards Dinner, this is a great opportunity!

We look forward to seeing you there.

Encore Nominations 

Congratulations to the following students for their nominations for possible inclusion in Encore, which is a concert celebrating a selection of outstanding music performances and written compositions from HSC music students. We are delighted that these students have been nominated!

Congratulations also to the Music staff who supported and guided all of the HSC Music students in 2023 – Mr Mathew Owen, Mr Joseph Montz, Ms Arienne Brodie, and Dr Jeremy Ezkenazi, as well as the Music tutors, Mr Peter Atkins, Mr Rhys Mottley and Mr David Wooltorton for supporting and accompanying the students in their performances.

Year 8-10 Elective Music Soirée

Parents and carers of students in Year 8 – 10 Elective Music are warmly invited to attend their Soirée, where students will be showcasing their solo performances for this semester. 

Students will be performing with their classes at the following times but should arrive half an hour before their start time to warm up and support their peers in their performance.  

Manly Jazz

The Manly Jazz performance on the weekend of Term 3 Wk 10 was outstanding! We drew quite the crowd, and had a 45-minute set of music from our Intermediate and Advanced Stage Bands, as well as our Jazz Combo. Congratulations to Mr Gray, Mr Montz and Mr Wooltorton for leading our students, and well done to all who performed so spectacularly! 

Ensemble Attendance and Expectations

A reminder that weekly attendance at ensemble is essential for all students enrolled in cocurricular ensembles. Regular participation is essential for students’ musical growth and the success of our ensembles at important upcoming end-of-year events. We greatly appreciate the  support of our community to help our students all rehearsals until the end of term. 

We also ask that all students ensure that they bring all required equipment (e.g. music & pencils) and are regularly practising their parts at home in the lead up to end of year events.

Upcoming Junior Curriculum Instrumental Performances

Term 4 is always an exciting time for our curriculum instrumentalists, as we aim towards our biggest performances of the year. Yr 2 and Yr 3 Strings are looking forward to performing in the Strings Concert, and Yr 4 and 5 students are busy preparing for the MIP Concert. In our lessons we have spoken about those pesky nerves that sometimes get in the way, and how we can help to overcome them by being well prepared and ready to perform. We encourage students to continue regular practice at home, and our tutors are always available to help with any tricky passages.

Please save the date for the following performances which will be open to parent and carer  visitors:

• Yr 2 & 3 Strings: Strings Concert, Monday 6 Nov 2pm
• Yr 4 & 5: MIP Concert, Thursday 9 Nov 2pm

Notice of Change

Now is a great time to take stocktake of your child’s enrolments in our cocurricular program. Should your child no longer be attending an ensemble, we ask that you complete the Notice of Change form, found on Pulse.
