Music

Time is flying, so we must be having fun!  It’s been another full and rewarding week in our P-12 Music Department, with Junior Campus Curricular and Cocurricular ensembles playing up a storm in rehearsals; our Yr 12 HSC Music 1 students offering their Core & Elective performance pieces for assessment; and Yr 9 Elective Music students are heading to the Opera House this evening to watch Stephen Hough perform Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.2 with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in support of their unit on the Romantic Period.

Bothe Junior and Senior Music Festival rehearsals are underway and Secondary School families will be receiving a letter with key information in the week ahead. We’re grateful for all our Friends of Music who have come on board to add some extra sparkle to these events.

Wishing our community a wonderful weekend and week to come.

Lunchtime Recital Series

Our Thursday Lunchtime Recital Series on the Senior Campus is gaining lovely momentum – consistent with the ‘Concert Practice’ format in most Conservatoria around the world.  This weekly fixture will continue to feature Elective Music students from Yrs 8-12 and we welcome friends and staff to bring their lunch and come along in support of these aspiring performers. Please reach out to Dr Jeremy Eskenazi or the Senior Music Office is you have any queries about this offering.

Each new Semester provides opportunity for new intake into our Advanced and Extension ensemble streams.  Junior Campus will make announcement about auditions shortly (intake will be after Junior Music Festival in July) and Senior Campus students are hereby advised that auditions are now open via the Auditions page for Advanced Strings, Advanced Concert Band, Advanced Guitar Ensemble and Jazz Vocal Ensemble. Expressions of interest remain open via iLearn for the extension Conducting Class and Chamber & Piano ensembles.

HICES Cocurricular Music Festival

Thank you to the students who auditioned to attend HICES in August this year. We will be in touch with the outcome as soon as we have been notified by the HICES office, and we look forward to taking the successful candidates with us to the festival in August.  We were delighted to hear this week that our Lead Conductor and Head of Music Enrichment, Mr Mathew Owen has been selected to conduct the combined HICES Concert Band – a testament to the strength in our programs here. Our Head of Choral P-12, Ms Nicole Roberts, will also be assisting with this event.

Studio Concerts – Weeks 5 – 7

Our Studio Concert Series each semester provides an informal and relaxed opportunity for our developing musicians to share their progress with a supportive audience of family and friends. Though not all studios will be holding concerts in Semester One, these events will be hosted by many of our Specialist Music Tutors and we invite members of our community to join us in the dates and times below for their child / friend’s performance growth.
