Music

Alongside a record throng of parents, I had the immense joy this afternoon of watching the culmination of this year’s work in the Yrs 4 and 5 Curriculum Music Ensemble program – affectionately called MIP.  Each year, the incoming Yr 4 cohort (and new Yr 5 students) begin their journey on an allocated Concert Band or String instrument. 225 musicians – so many of whom have only been learning since the start of this year presented a dedicated, polished ensemble performance.

Ms Moses presented a fantastic information session yesterday for our Yr 3 parents in readiness for MIP next year, with excitement already growing for the next stream!  The net result of all of this work is evidenced in our burgeoning Intermediate and Advanced Concert Bands and String Ensembles in the Secondary School. We are very proud of our Prep and Junior students for their work this year, with heartfelt thanks owed to Ms Moses for facilitating the program, and to Mr Guha, Ms Breckenridge, teachers, tutors and administrators for their year round support that ensures the ongoing success of these experiences.

I can’t wait to see what our Junior Campus Strings Concert on Monday offers us.

See you there!

Spotlight on Transition Gold

Transition Gold have been exploring the musical concept of pulse through movement using Japanese Paper Balloons (which self-inflate) whilst listening to the piece Fly by Ludovico Einaudi. You could see the concentration on their faces as they not only had to show body awareness but also keeping in time to the music with their Japanese Paper Balloons! The students loved it so much, especially trying to keep the balloons in the air. Thank you Mrs Roberts for facilitating this exciting learning for TG.

Elective Music Showcases – Yr 9 Soirée!

Well done to Yr 9 who returned from the Northern Territory this weekend and launched earnestly into their end of year Soirée on Monday evening!  A wide range of styles and instruments showcased the rich talent that lies in this cohort, and it was wonderful once again to have parents with us. That concludes our formal assessments for the year – with Yrs 7-10 all moving on with their exciting project-based learning for the remainder of the year.
