Junior Music Festival is BACK! …in Black.

Actually, it’s back in full and resplendent colour and we simply can not wait to see our Years 3-6 students take to the stage this term in Dunnet Hall for their Annual Spectacular on Thursday 4 August at 4:30pm.

In their curriculum Music lessons and cocurricular ensembles, students have been learning repertoire relating to our theme for 2022 – ‘School of Rock’ – and they are very excited to be performing at this event!

Tickets will be available through Trybooking from 8pm this evening until Tuesday 2 August. Please be advised that Junior School students DO NOT need a ticket. This is a free event however due to venue size limitations and our COVID Response seating restrictions, each family may only reserve one ticket. Please respect this guidance which will allow all families the chance to watch their child perform. This performance will be filmed and access to this recording will be distributed following the Festival.

Welcome New Staff

Gloriously dispelling any notion of a decline in Music engagement post-COVID, our Redlands Private Tuition stream numbers are at a record high with more than 430 students each week participating in private music lessons, and waiting lists burgeoning. To this end, we are delighted to welcome pianist, Mr Tony Lee to our team of world-class Music Tutors and Accompanists.

Tony is a highly experienced piano teacher and accompanist and is objectively regarded as one of Australia’s finest pianists. Sydney-born but educated in Europe, Tony was an artist in residence at the Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth in Belgium, working the renowned Portuguese-Swiss pianist, Maria-João Pires. He is one of the most highly awarded pianists in Australia and is the First Prizewinner of the Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition, Australian National Piano Award, John Allison Sydney Eisteddfod Scholarship, and was furthermore named the ‘Best Australian Pianist’ at the Sydney International Piano Competition in 2016.

We are delighted to have Tony with us and he too is very much looking forward to working with the students and team at Redlands.

Join and ensemble? Learn an instrument?

The start of each new semester is a fantastic window to join an ensemble or take up an instrument if it’s been on your to do list! We have enjoyed meeting dozens of new ensemble members this week on the Senior Campus and our Junior ensembles will welcome new intake straight after Junior Music Festival. Opportunity exists for new members to jump on board across all ensembles. If you would like to join choir, band or small ensemble, take musicianship classes or have private lessons on a new instrument, reach out to the Music office for direct assistance, or simply sign up using the electronic forms on Pulse and we will help you launch your journey.

As the culmination of their year’s work and by way of assessment, all elective students present a showcase performance in the Edwards Auditorium each year for parents and friends.
