Music
It’s all happening from Prep to Yr 12 with projects across the school! On the Senior Campus, Yr 7 are taking a musical trip around the world; Yr 8 are creating their own subject fusions ‘Music & [Other Favourite Subject]’ to make their own research / performing / composition unit; Yr 9 are exploring Australian Film Music by making and underscoring their own short films; and Yr 10 are taking a deep dive into an area of passion with their exciting projects ready to share next week.

It’s also full steam ahead on our projects for Speech Day in under a fortnight! This year has required extra creativity and flexibility from students, teachers and tutors alike as we have worked diligently and safely to navigate the many restrictions on music-making in the school context. Just the same, as we near the finish line of the year, we have so much to be thankful for.
Band and Strings have all made wonderful contributions using the Choir Creator app, though Senior Choir is still needing a few more members to be brave and add their voice!
A reduced part and tutorial video has been created and the revised process will now take no more than 10 minutes from start to finish!
We know some keen Choir members may have missed the messages on iLearn because of the year’s disruption. We’d hate for them to miss out. If parents would like to encourage their children to contribute in this way (you can see them on the screen for Speech Day!) please forward them this link!

Senior Instrumental Competition 2021 – Revised for Online Context
This coming week, our finalists in our Senior Instrumental Competition 2021 will provide video performances via our iLearn page up until the 23 November, to be adjudicated remotely by our guest adjudicator, Brian Castles-Onion AM. Competitors are encouraged to reach out to the Senior Music office with any questions, and communicate directly with their assigned accompanists to navigate any challenges they may encounter.
Dreaming for our New Year
As always, we are looking for ways to strengthen our Home and Music Department connection, and are working for some simpler policies and procedures in 2022 and beyond – from enrolling to hiring lockers. We look forward to guiding you through our new simplified procedures in the new year.
Everything is crossed for a ‘return to better-than-normal’ in the Music department from January.
Enjoy your last full week of term and reach out if you have any further questions.
