Redlands Music Vision Night & AGM

We invite our whole community join us THIS EVENING for the 2021 Friends of Music AGM – dreaming for 2022 and beyond.

Whether you’re interested in joining the Friends of Music, or if you’re just keen to hear more about the many musical opportunities available to your child at Redlands, we encourage you to join our Zoom TONIGHT at 7pm and bring your questions for a chat at the end.

Tonight will be a night for sharing our vision – from our Redlands Music learners from Preschool to Yr 12. Hear a reprised showcase performance from some of our very talented senior music students, and catch a glimpse of the many ways (big and small) a Friend of Music can become involved in our happenings across the school.

Later in the meeting, the election of the 2022 Friends of Music Committee will take place for anyone interested in taking a more active role. If you are considering nominating for President, Vice President, Secretary or Treasurer and would like more information about the roles, please email Emma McLaren: emmajmclaren@outlook.com. See you there!

Passion Projects

We are determined as ever that if our students finish the year with anything, it’s a renewed vision for the central role of music in their lives. In the Senior school, we’ve turned our Elective (8-10) curriculum into exciting student-led projects. The ideas being generated by these young minds are astounding. Yr 8 are making exciting connections across fields of their choosing (Music and Maths / Fine Art / Psychology / Language / Biology / Physics / Geography); Yr 9 are writing, filming and scoring their own Film scenes; and Yr 10 are taking a deep dive into an area of Music that interests them (akin to an IB project in Yr 11) and are producing a research presentation, composition and performance to reflect their findings . We are looking forward to seeing all these works presented in Week 8.

Senior Instrumental Competition

Senior Instrumental Competition is taking shape to be live-streamed on Monday 22 November 2021. Rehearsal times will be communicated with competitors directly. Our adjudicator for the event is internationally acclaimed conductor, Brian Castles-Onion AM. We are thrilled for the wealth of rich and diverse instrumental understanding he brings as he adjudicates our instrumental finalists this year.

Return of Hire Instruments

For those hiring instruments from Redlands and seeking to continue this hire through 2022, no action is needed. For those in Yr 5 MIP or Yr 2 Strings who won’t be seeking to enrol in private tuition for their instrument for the year to come, these instruments will need to be returned to our office by Monday next week.

Yr 5 MIP were being collected today (please bring them in tomorrow if you forgot!) and Yr 2 strings are being collected on Monday 8th November. Violins should be brought in as normal and kept classrooms. Cellos should be dropped off at carline or reception.

If you would like to enrol for Private lessons and continue your hire, we’d be delighted to help. Please see the forms on Pulse and communicate your plans with our office.

Enrolments for 2022

At this time every year, we start to put plans in place for the year to come in terms of staffing and curriculum. Ensemble and tuition enrolments are automatically rolled over from one year to the next (including from Yr 6 into commensurate Yr 7 ensembles).  Should students be seeking a change of enrolment for the semester to come, we ask that this notice is given 4 weeks before the end of each semester.  This means the cut-off date to avoid late fee for un-enrolling from Private Tuition is next Friday 12 November. Thank you for attending to this as needed.

Whilst there is no penalty or fee for a late un-enrolment from an ensemble, your help keeping our cocurricular enrolments (like choir or band) up to date is hugely helpful, as a matter of assigned duty of care. Thank you for communicating with our office should your child be changing ensembles in 2022.

Hope to see you tonight for the AGM!
