Music

Welcome Back to Term 4!

With the sight of Summer on the horizon, the feeling of accomplishment is in the air for many as a year of goal setting starts to feel its reward within our final Music tasks, exams and activities for the year. As our term launches, industrious music-making has been resounding in many homes across our community as students in our Extracurricular program have been filming their AMEB Examination Repertoire for video upload. We have loved reviewing all the performances as they have rolled in, and we commend all the students who have set goals, challenged themselves and grown in their musical skills this year, especially in light of the challenges.

Especial thanks to the patient camera operators (carers!), our Redlands Music Tutors who gave extra lessons and prepared accompaniments, and to Mrs Jacqueline McGlade in our Music Office who worked through the holidays to support the collation and upload of these videos for the examining bodies.

Senior Instrumental Competition – NEW DATE

Please note a tentative new date – Monday 22 November 2021.

Though we wait for clarity as to the finer points of restrictions for Instrumental Music-making once students are allowed back on site, we have taken the liberty of pencilling in a revised date for the postponed Senior Instrumental Competition. If restrictions are still prohibitive of a live performance on this new date, we will move to a video upload format for this event too – if only to bring a sense of closure for our talented finalists who have worked hard for this accolade.

If we are able to go ahead with a live performance of sorts (TBA), it will commence at 4pm and though closed to the public, it will be live-streamed. More information will come as the restrictions ease.
Please mark the date in your diary just the same.

Though Year 12 finalists will have officially graduated, in this extraordinary year, we would welcome these graduates to still participate in the competition – should it work with their final HSC & IB examination schedules.

We congratulate the following students once more on their success in being selected as finalists for 2021:

Though many members of the Class 2021 have participated in our Music programs over the years, we would especially like to pay our thanks to the following Yr 12 students who have shown great resilience, positivity, dedication and leadership within our Elective Curricular & Cocurricular Music streams this year – the culmination of many years of music-making along their Redlands journey.

Lessons, Classes and Rehearsals in Term 4

As Remote Learning continues throughout the next weeks, and with the imminent return to On-Campus Learning, we are ever cognisant of the advice and restrictions for Music-making as afforded us by NSW Health. As we return to On-Campus Learning, we will be sure to advise our community if and when it has been deemed safe to modify our current strategy away from online Music classes, rehearsals and tuition.

In the meantime, ensembles and lessons continue in Term 4 as they were in Term 3.

Senior Students are encouraged to check their iLearn notification settings to ensure they are up to speed with rehearsal times and Zoom sessions as they are scheduled. With the launch of the LUX PROJECT for 2021, it is our hope to have this year culminate in rewarding Music projects, despite all the challenges of this year. We look forward to having all students participating within our final music projects for 2021.

Date Changes and Cancellations

Please keep your eye on the Music Events dates on Pulse in case of adjustments in the weeks and months ahead, in light of our rapidly changing context.  As mentioned last term, the Yrs 8, 9 and 10 Showcases have officially been cancelled and assessment components for these years will be reimagined as video uploads.  We will be seeking ways to provide vital Performance experiences ‘in house’ once students are back on campus. We look forward to sharing our music in this way again as soon as it has been deemed safe to do so.
