Welcome to Redlands Music (P-12)

Keep up to speed with our Weekly Departmental update below! See Pulse or contact the Junior or Senior Music Offices if you would like to know more about the many Curricular, CoCurricular and Extra-Curricular Music offerings available to all Redlands students.

Senior Music Festival 2021 – ‘A Night at the Movies’

Oh, what a night! In showcasing the talents of our Secondary School musicians after a long break from live concerts for the Redlands school community, it was such a joy to see over 200 musicians take to the Concourse stage last Friday evening, offering 30 exciting musical items in front of a packed and enthusiastic house! Thank you to all who helped make this memorable evening happen.

The evening also paid fitting tribute to our departing Coordinator of Music, Darren Kuilenburg as we all rallied to sing Thank you for the Music one last time. We wish him all the best in his next chapter.

You can see more photos from the Senior Music Festival at the bottom of this page.

SMF Celebration – Wednesday 9 June

In order to thank the 200+ staff and students who helped ensure the festival’s success, on Wednesday 9 June at 1pm, a cake will be served in the Upper Gallery of the Music Centre, with the prizes to be awarded for the highest number of Festival Tickets sold at this time! Grab your lunch and race to join the cake-cutting, photo viewing and announcements at 1pm.

Junior Music Festival – 29 July

While on the topic of Music Festivals, please do ensure you’ve saved the date for our Junior Music Festival – shaping up to be the round-the-world ticket we wished we’d been able to take this past little while! The Friends of Music are currently rallying volunteers from our community to help add some extra ‘wow’ to this special event for our young music-makers! Is this you? Would you like to help?

Please contact juniormusic@redlands.nsw.edu.au to find out how you can be involved!

To assist the smooth-running of the process, all students must bring their Student ID Card to their photo call time at the Fahl Garden, but they do not need to bring their instruments for these photos. Wet Weather venue will be the Edwards Auditorium.

The remaining ensembles will be photographed in Week 9 – see next week’s Note Day for more information.

Senior Vocal Competition – Friday 11 June

Congratulations to our finalists who are no doubt diligently preparing to perform in the Senior Vocal Competition for 2021 in the Edwards Auditorium from 6pm next Friday. Though there is no cost for attendance, in light of our Covid management, parents hoping to attend will need to be ticketed. Performers may each bring two guests to share in the evening and these two tickets can be secured through Trybooking.

Our adjudicator for this year will be the magnificent Clarissa Spata – a world respected performer across classical and contemporary genres. Most recently you may have seen her as a quarterfinalist on The Voice or performing with Opera Australia.

We look forward to her valuable contribution to this fantastic evening.

Rehearsal Attendance & Notice of Absence

Thank you to those students who are consistently punctual and organised for their rehearsals each week. The recent showcases are testament to your evident dedication and commitment to your own learning journey as musicians and this is so very admirable. Punctual attendance at all ensembles is an expectation of all students enrolled in co-curricular ensembles. Please do remember to contact juniormusic@redlands.nsw.edu.au or seniormusic@redlands.nsw.edu.au respectively if you can foresee an absence or if you have missed a rehearsal due to illness.

Duty of Care

Please be mindful that for early morning rehearsals, the Music Department’s duty of care commences just 10 minutes before the scheduled start of any before-school ensemble. Though we are aware many families have work and other commitments to manage, especially on the Junior Campus, please do ensure that your child isn’t left on school grounds without supervision before our communicated rehearsal start time.

Want to join an Ensemble? Thinking about exploring some Private Vocal or Instrumental lessons?

Please see the Music section of Pulse to download the signup forms for all our co-curricular and extra-curricular offerings from P-12. If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to contact our team via juniormusic@redlands.nsw.edu.au or seniormusic@redlands.nsw.edu.au and we will be more than happy to assist you.

Have a great coming week.
