Redlands Junior Piano Competition
The Music Department would like to congratulate all finalists who competed in the annual Redlands Junior Piano Competitions on Monday evening. Hosted superbly by Head of Junior Campus Music Mrs Amy Richardson, all students were welcomed to the stage, presenting polished performances from memory and in demonstrating high levels of technical proficiency across all divisions. Guest adjudicator for the competition, Dr Kirill Monorosi from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, was particularly impressed with the outstanding standard of piano playing from students in Years 3-6, commending all competitors on their overall musicality and stylistic interpretation of the repertoire. At the conclusion of each competition, students were presented with their awards by the Principal, Mr Stephen Webber and Head of Junior School, Mr Ari Guha.
The Music Department would like to acknowledge the work of exceptional specialist piano tutors, who mentor our young musicians in their musical endeavors. The team of Piano Tutors here at Redlands includes Ms Julia Booth, Mrs Annette Houghton, Mr Zi-Hao Li, Mr Damon Wade and Mr Jason Xu. Thanks, is also extended to Ms Arienne Brodie and Ms Katherine Moses for their assistance in selecting finalists throughout the audition process and in mentoring these young pianists in order to achieve a high level of performance and presentation. Thank you to Mrs Jacqueline McGlade for her meticulous behind the scenes organisation for this event.

Winter Music Festivals
As we approach the Winter Music Festival Season, the Music Ensembles Program across the Junior and Secondary Campuses, will continue exploring and extending their musical skills in preparation for a variety of concerts throughout May and July. Staff and students are already well-underway in preparing a wide range of repertoire in readiness for the Senior Music Festival (Friday 28 May) and the Junior Music Festival (Thursday 29 July), The Department would like to welcome the school community to be part of these festive concerts.
Senior Music Festival – A Night at the Movies
The Senior Music Festival, A Night at the Movies, is a concert celebrating the vibrant Music Ensembles Program of the Secondary School and this year will be dedicated in honour of Tomomi Takahashi, a Redlands Music Tutor, who sadly lost her battle with cancer last year and who will forever remain in our hearts.
Tomomi will always be remembered as a key member of the Music team, and an exceptional musician who made significant contribution to the life of our School, matched with an everlasting impact on the lives of the students she mentored and the staff she worked alongside.
A number of musical tributes in honour of Tomomi will form part of this concert, and we invite the Music Community to be part of this event, in recognising how our lives can be shaped and impacted through power of music.
While celebrating the wonderful life of Tomomi, we are so thrilled to be recognising the achievements of our Redlands Music students, who after over a year in reduced ensemble arrangements, have been resilient and courageous learners, committing themselves to perfecting their skills. This festival will be true testament to the dedication and perseverance of all our musicians as they present an inspiring evening of music-making.
This exciting event in the school calendar will present a wide range of classical and contemporary repertoire, with the thematic feature of the concert exploring music from well-loved films. Traditionally, in concluding the festival, students from the Music Program participate as part of the Year 12 Finale, in an exciting performance presented through song and dance. This year, graduating students, choral members and a rock ensemble, will be performing a medley from MAMMA MIA: The Movie, with hit tunes from ABBA. The Music Department anticipates a sensational concert in showcasing the talents of its Redlands musicians.
