Junior Sport

Junior Sport

Welcome back! Similar to Term 2, we will be asking students to continue to practise good hygiene at all times and to use the hand sanitisers available at school before and after sport training and matches. Students will also be reminded not to share their water bottles with team mates and to take extra precaution in those sports where the insertion and removal of mouthguards occurs regularly at breaks.

Interschool Sport competitions resume on Saturday 25 July and the specific safety requirements relevant to each Sporting Association is outlined in detail below. Similar to most club sport that has recommenced, there are restrictions in place for spectators. For any Redlands home games the following will apply:

Week 1 – Saturday 25 July: No spectators permitted.
Week 2 – Saturday 1 August onwards: only one spectator per student permitted, until further notice.

Please note that some schools in our sporting associations (IPSHA and HICES) have made the decision not to have spectators from both their own school as well as the visiting school at their home games for the whole season. This will be communicated to Redlands by way of included information in the draw. Schools and venues will be displaying their own conditions of entry and these may change from week to week so please be patient as we navigate this return to interschool sport.

It is also worth noting that with spectator restrictions in place, this will also be accompanied by parking restrictions at both schools and external venues for Saturday sport so please be prepared to organise a pre-arranged pick up point with your child once their match has finished.

Wednesday Sport

In exciting news this week our regular Wednesday sport program recommenced this week at both external venues and on site. Please refer to this link to view your child’s Representative and Non-Representative sport for this term. A reminder that any sport specific equipment and or clothing will be required (eg., shin pads, hockey stick, tennis racquet, swimmers, mouthguard etc.)

Training Schedule

An updated training schedule for all Junior School Sport can be found here. This contains details for our Representative Sport training, details for our optional before school skills sessions that students may attend, our Gymnastics program and our Development Football program (previously known as Extra Subject).

Student Absence

For those students who are representing Redlands in fixtures each Friday or Saturday and will miss their game due to illness, parents are required to complete this online absence form. This will allow your responses to be passed on electronically to your child’s coach efficiently and at short notice. The Student Absence link can also be found on the Junior School Sports page on Redlands Pulse.

Redlands Pulse

The Junior School Sport pages on Redlands Pulse will continue to be the ‘source of truth’ for all information relating to sport this term. The pages have been updated to give you an overview of the sports on offer, their respective seasons, costings and links to live documents. The Term 3 Sports calendar, venue directory, uniform booklet and parent information booklets can be found here.

I am asking that if parents have an enquiry relating to sport that your first port of call will be the Junior School Sport section of Redlands Pulse.

Sport Uniforms

Redlands students will need to ensure they are in the correct uniform. Please refer to this link for all information relating to what uniform is required for Saturday matches.

Saturday Sport Team Lists

Please refer to this document for Representative Sport Team lists.

Saturday Sport Draw

Similar to Term 1, the draw for Winter will be via this link. Please do not print off as a hard copy as details change week to week as host schools modify times and or venues. The best time to view this live draw would be Friday 1pm as changes tend not to occur after that.

Football

As Term 3 commences and sport resumes, we wanted to highlight some changes to our after school Football programs.

The previously named Extra Subject 3-6 Junior Football program has received a facelift over the break to better align with the bigger picture of Redlands sport and, in particular, the Redlands K-12 Football program and pathway. Some exciting new options are being introduced for Yrs 1 and 2 and an introduction program will also be offered for Yrs 3-6 students.

All Football on Monday afternoons from Preschool through to Yr 6 will be known as Development Football, which will take the format of either a feeder and introduction to Redlands Rep Football or as an acceleration opportunity in addition to Redlands Rep Football. Development Football runs year-round and students can sign up term by term.

Our goal is to provide:

  • A fun, safe and engaging environment for all students to develop in Football.
  • A clear development pathway within the Redlands framework.
  • More personalised coaching in smaller groups for Junior School students.
  • Opportunities to work with Redlands most experienced coaches.
  • Increased opportunities for more students to accelerate their development at all levels.

Development Football has 4 tiers:

  1. Redlands House to Kindergarten – Focus on fundamental skills and introduction to Football within a fun and friendly environment.
  2. Yrs 1 and 2 – Focus remains on fundamental skills and introduction to Football. In 2021 we intend to expand this program and offer optional match experience and games on Friday afternoons in the form of internal matches and friendlies with local schools. This will be trialled later in 2020 and, if well received, will become a more permanent fixture in 2021.
  3. New commencing Term 3 2020 – Yrs 3 to 6 Introductory Football aimed at students new to Football who aspire to join Redlands Rep teams. Focus is on development of skills and fast track exposure to Football in a nurturing environment.
  4. Replacing Yrs 3-6 Extra Subject Football – The Acceleration program is aimed at students currently playing Rep Football for Redlands who want to develop their skills further and take their Football to the next level.

Football is successful, thriving and extremely popular across the Secondary and Junior Schools. Get involved now! Full details can be found here.

Netball

Our three Junior School Netball teams, 6A, 6B and 5A, commenced their season early with their Round 1 taking place last Friday night in the NSNA competition. Our 6B team played LCNC and, despite being a player short all game, Redlands came away with the win, 7-2. Our Yr 5 team lost to Mosman in their match and was great to see the more experienced Netball girls guiding our new players through the various aspects of the game. The final game saw our 6A team play Loreto Kirribilli and they came away with the win scoring 14 goals to their 5. Thank you to the parents who supported from the various vantage points throughout the venue. The remaining matches (times and courts) have been uploaded to our Winter Sport Draw.
