Junior Sport

Junior Sport

We were very fortunate on Wednesday to get through all of our final gradings for our Yrs 5 and 6 representative sports despite early showers threatening these. Special mention to those students across both Year Groups who, even though are not playing a representative sport in Term 3, involved themselves in the skills, drills and fitness sessions on offer. I was very proud of the 20 Yr 6 students made up of dancers, golfers, tennis players and swimmers who enthusiastically participated in my 70min boxing session. Some tired hands at the end of it but most of them seemed to enjoy the session and have a new appreciation for how fit boxers have to be.

Yrs 3 and 4 will have their opportunity to have their final grading for rep teams next Wednesday in school time and all sports remaining on site. Similar to Yrs 5 and 6, those students not involved in rep sport may elect to do an activity on the day. This is due to the fact that some external companies who cater for our non-rep sports program will not reopen until next term.

A reminder that this Saturday is the final optional winter skills session for any interested family. Only those students who have registered will be permitted to enter the grounds on Saturday and take part. Information was emailed to parents last Saturday on how to register and also who has registered for this week. More information can be found here.

While there is no Junior School Sport offerings these coming school holidays, please encourage your child to participate in as much physical activity as they can, try some new things, go for a run, get out and enjoy what the easing of COVID-19 restrictions has allowed.

Term 3 Sport Information Zoom Session

In preparation for the return to sport next term, but also for a refresh from where we left off in Term 1, there is an opportunity for parents to join a Zoom Sport Information session next Tuesday evening at the times below. Please access the conversation via the Zoom links below which were also sent on Monday 15 June.

Tuesday 23 June

6.30pm: Yrs 3 and 4 Sport – Zoom link
7.15pm: Yrs 5 and 6 Sport – Zoom link

While I will cover information relating to the restart of Representative Sport in Term 3, the session will cover all sport, whether you are involved in Representative Sport or not. It is more of an opportunity to realign, see what is new, where we are going and what is coming up. I have included an agenda below to see if there is an area that interests you.

Agenda

  • Communication
  • Redlands Pulse-Junior School Sport Refresh
  • Term 3 Sport update

Athletics Carnival Term 3

In preparation for our Athletics Carnival scheduled to take place Term 3, Week 3 students have been provided with their entrant number (different from Swimming) which they will use to enter track (running) events. This link contains all these Entrant Numbers.

I am asking students to learn these like they did for Swimming in Term 1. This will allow for their names, race times and House to appear on the large digital screen at Homebush as soon as they finish their race and will aid in the overall running of the Carnival.

A reminder that registration to nominate to trial for field events (Long Jump, High Jump, Discus, and Shot Put) closes Friday 26 June. More details about this process and our upcoming Athletics Carnival can be found on Redlands Pulse.

Term 3 Sport

For Redlands Junior School Sport, the sporting calendar has been updated over the weekend to reflect the possible recommencement of before and after school training, the extra subject program and Saturday matches.

Term 3 Sport Calendar

Term 3 will hopefully also see the return to our normal Wednesday afternoon Sports program where students engage in various sports which they registered for last term. Given that it has been some time can I suggest you visit the following link to see your child’s nominated sport for Term 3.

It may be worth visiting this page to view your child’s Winter Sport Choice for Term 3.

To assist you in the planning and preparation for a return to sport in Term 3, please view this link. There are a few new initiatives and extra session on offer across the program.

Of course, as things are confirmed, we will notify all parents.
