Junior Sport

IPSHA Sport

There are no Redlands Junior School sports fixtures this weekend due to the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.

Winter Sports photos will be held next Wednesday during school time. A schedule will be displayed in the Junior School classrooms. Students who play on Saturdays should bring their match uniform for the photos.

HICES Cross Country Champions

Congratulations to Daniel Benoleil, Finn Morton, Charles Hargreaves, Jake Wilson, Samuel Robinson, Lachlan Carmichael, Alfie Gatehouse, Isaac Brooks, Flynn Keiran, Charlie Parker, Amelie Dewar, Lola Brasler, Sofia Thorne, Lara Farrell, Felicity Schlederer and Eva Osborn who have all qualified to represent HICES at the NSWCIS Cross Country Championships next Thursday. To have 15 qualifiers is an excellent record. Best of luck to all of our runners at this very challenging level.

Football

Yr 6 footballers enjoyed some great wins in all three grades last weekend against Central Coast Grammar. Piling on the points early in the C match, our team managed four early goals and were never headed. Connor Smith and Harrie Taylor netted chances early for the B team and they also held on for a four goal victory.

Our Yr 5 teams despite being down in numbers took on a spirited Kings team and with some Yr 4 helpers managed a draw in the A match in a tightly fought 1-1.

Yr 4 Blue fought back after a disastrous first half to take the second half 2-0  and the Yr 4 Red team had a super exciting 3-3 draw with Josh Bartlett putting Redlands ahead with only a few minutes to go, but we couldn’t hold on for the win.

Our top footballers from Yr 6 travelled south to The Illawarra Grammar School Invitational Football Tournament last Thursday. Both boys and girls teams put on an excellent showing to advance to the quarter finals, only to bow out at that stage. Jasmine Black, Sophia Rolon and Zoe Waterfield were excellent for the girls.

Sam Robinson, both Barwise boys and Flynn Keiran were live-wires up front in the early matches. Rafferty Heard and River Stefanovic provided the structure from the defensive end. Five matches in a day was a tough ask, but our teams played really well together and improved with each game, having a heap of fun in the process!

Hockey

Our Girls finally managed a well deserved win after drawing all their matches this season, winning by the narrowest of margins .

Paul Kelly Cup

Our Paul Kelly Cup teams took on the best from the Sydney Harbour region in the last stop before the hallowed turf of the SCG. Our boys faced an uphill battle drawing last year’s Champions Knox in the first round. Despite battling hard in their first two matches our lads didn’t make the most when they had the strong wind at their back and went down narrowly to South Coogee before piling on the points in their final game to beat Trinity in a come from behind win. Gianmarco Pradel topped the day with four last half goals, Andrew Kinghorn, Joe Hooper and Charlie Parker all impressed with their commitment to the footy.

Our girls won two of their three matches and narrowly missed the SCG finals by a single goal in for and against recordings. Hannah Garde showed some great instincts as a small forward, sneaking some brilliantly crumbed goals, whilst Hallie Hunt proved strong and committed through the midfield. Jasmine Black again won the attention of Swans Academy scouts with her strong running and powerful right boot.

Winter Before School Training

In wet weather please use your discretion with attending before school training. Given the early start we are unable to assess the field conditions until after your departure time. If it’s raining heavily please use common sense. The JS Oval will be cancelled if there has been any rain in the previous 24 hours.
