Welcome Back

In these unusual times can I welcome you back to Term 2. I will assume there was not much of an opportunity to replicate Term 1 school holidays of previous years but hopefully the restrictions allowed the opportunity to spend more quality time with your family members. The recent announcements by the Government relating to schools are exciting knowing there is light at the end of the tunnel. Hopefully we will see each other soon.

Cross Country Carnival

While it is not possible to run our Cross Country Carnival this term due to the current climate, in some exciting news I can confirm that we have secured Cammeray Golf Course on Thursday 17 September (Term 3, Week 9). The students will complete a unit of work in their PDHPE class later this term in preparation for Term 3.

Live Zoom Workouts

It was wonderful to see so many students involved in our first ‘live’ workout sessions on Wednesday afternoon when we have Sport in our timetables. We will continue to run these and also explore opportunities to have optional Saturday morning sessions when we would normally be playing interschool sport.

IPSHA Sport Update

As you would be aware we participate in both IPSHA and HICES sporting pathways for our Junior School students. Below is the latest information from IPSHA regarding boys’ and girls’ sport. Please keep in mind that this is all based on the current rulings by Government and we will adapt in whatever way we are able to should the situation change.

Girls

  • No change at present.
  • Were restrictions to be relaxed and it is deemed safe to play sport then IPSHA would be happy to facilitate an ‘opt in’ Saturday sport program over whatever weeks remained.
  • At this point IPSHA are hopeful that Term 3 sport will proceed as normal.

Boys

  • With the secondary associations having ruled a line through all Term 2 sport, it may make it difficult  ‘politically’ for IPSHA to go ahead on Saturday 30 May as previously indicated but it might be a case of ‘opt in’ as described above for the Girls.
  • Term 3 sport would be three rounds of Rugby / Football / AFL and then athletics as normal. The format over those three rounds may be gala day style so as to maximise games for the students.

Redlands HomeFit

At the end of last term it was great to receive feedback from those families who have been visiting Redlands Homefit  and selecting some items to stay active during this time. What was more pleasing was to read some of the activities that our students have been logging in their daily exercise log.

Parents and students are encouraged to continue to visit Redlands HomeFit located on Redlands Pulse where a variety of content has been uploaded and will continue to be over the coming weeks. This page will be regularly updated with tips, hints, blogs, videos and routines. Can I encourage you to make some time to visit this page in the coming days and weeks to see if there is something that would suit you and your family.

Virtual Mother’s Day Classic 2020

The Mother’s Day Classic is an annual fun run and walk raising funds and awareness for breast cancer research. The aim of the Mother’s Day Classic is to deliver a fun, healthy and inspirational community event that brings the community together on Mother’s Day to support and remember those touched by breast cancer. Have fun, get active and help us raise funds online for vital breast cancer research.

The Redlands community has taken part in the Mother’s Day Classic for many years and we don’t want this year to be any different. We’re calling on students and family members, staff and alumni to sign up and support this wonderful event as it goes virtual.

We challenge participants to walk or run 4km or 8km – anytime, anywhere, in your living room, at the local park or even in your backyard – on or before Mother’s Day (Sunday 10 May) and be a part of something big.

Join the Redlands MDC20 Team and show your support for our community!
