Junior Sport
In a wonderful finale for our sporting year, last weekend our teams were in action all over Sydney and surrounds. Thanks to all players, supporters, spectators and coaches for their contribution to a wonderful year of sport.
With sport changing shape in the Junior School next year and my own role incorporating teaching rather than running the sports program, I take this opportunity to thank all parents and students for their effort in making our sports program a success. I’m a true believer that sport, as well as having clear physical benefits to growing children, is massively impactful in social and emotional development. In the Junior School years, we treat this with real importance and have endeavoured to create an environment where Redlands sport leaves a positive mark on everyone.
IPSHA Girls Basketball
Girls basketballers finish off their short season this weekend at a host of venues across the city. All matches are as the original draw.
IPSHA Mixed Basketball
Our Yrs 3 and 4 basketballers took on Aloysius and Kings, whilst our team went down at Aloysius, excitement ran really high with two tightly contested matches and narrow victories for our A and B teams against Kings in Lang Gym. The increasing depth in the Basketball program shone through as our A-H teams took 7 from 8 matches against Newington, losing only a single match and that one by a point in a tremendously exciting E game.
Cricket
Redlands cricketers again enjoyed conditions on the Redlands Junior Campus Oval and despite going down to a very strong Riverview team, showed plenty of potential and even more fight, pluck and courage facing some fierce bowling.
Tennis
Redlands Tennis finished last weekend with more great play against Trinity at Trinity. Callum Zhu and Leonardo Vaccarrezza were rewarded with coaches awards and led the way with both singles and doubles wins. Meanwhile 14 students from our next ranked positions played a morning of matches and had a ball, playing up to six matches in the morning and developing match play skills, preparing already for an assault on the top rankings in 2020.
2020 Sports Dates
A 2020 sports calendar with all trainings, trial matches and events has been uploaded to Redlands Pulse. It’s a working document with some additions made as they come to hand, but should be able to give everyone an idea of the 2020 sporting landscape.
