Junior Sport
IPSHA Mixed Basketball
Junior School Basketball had some great results last weekend with a series of great results against a really tough opponent. St Patricks Strathfield have given us great competition over recent years and last weekend was no different with narrow margins across a host of games. More often than not our Redlands teams came out ahead. Dunnet Hall played host to our A-F teams and despite giving away height and physicality to our all boys school opponents, our teams matched them and took four wins, a narrow loss and a draw from the six games on our home court. Sports Captains Stella Simpson Morgan and Lachlan Carmichael teamed up to lead our A team to an emphatic victory.
Our Yrs 3 and 4 teams showed great teamwork and a developing understanding of roles with a team to upset Knox and Newington in Lang Gym last week. Our B team has come together beautifully and, led by rebound experts Maddie Fellowes and Talie Kara, never looked headed. The A team came from behind and played a great team game in the second half. Byron Mills, Thys Hulsboch and Cooper Rinaldo took charge of rebounds, scoring and defense respectively. Each leading the team in a spirited second half effort.
Matches for this weeks A-D matches have been moved to Lang Gym on Redlands Senior Campus to accommodate our Secondary School 1sts teams. Junior players are encouraged to head over to Dunnet Hall after their matches to check out the pathway for Basketball for them in Secondary School. The Boys and Girls 1sts are both playing and are a great spectacle, showcasing how talented and athletic our Basketball program is across the board.
Our E–H teams this week take on Barker at Thornleigh Brickpit Sports Stadium, 1A Dartford Road, Thornleigh. All times are as the original schedule.
Girls Basketball
Our Girls Basketball teams continue to improve each week. The girls are beginning to adjust to their teams and the cohesion and teamwork is developing each week. Our Yr 5 team are starting to hit their straps coming away with a well earned win. Just a friendly reminder for all basketballers that it can make things tough on our coaches and teams when players arrive on or after game time. Please try to be punctual and arrive with at least a few minutes to spare before the scheduled match start time.
Cricket
Our cricketers found some form last week and had great contributions across the team with both bat and ball. George Proctor top scored with 25, Liam and Rowan Petersen 16 and 14 respectively and our batsmen rallied all around to score an impressive 117 from their allotted overs. Our bowlers weren’t to be outdone, Rowan Petersen, Jasper Houchell and Rory Mantell each taking two wickets in a well balanced attack. The team has hit some form at the right time, taking on Sydney Grammar this week in the first cricket match on the new Redlands Oval.
Tennis
Our Tennis team had a great win last week with fantastic results in both singles and doubles. After narrowly going down in a tight match the week before, our players across the board are working out how to win the tight battles, showing great composure in the big points.
Surf Education
Students have begun their Surf Education program this week in beautiful conditions at Freshwater. The program will focus on fitness, beach games, surfboard skills, surf safety, ocean conditions, rips, tides, currents and the overall education on the dangers of swimming and surfing in the ocean. The older students will also be instructed in basic board, first aid and swimming rescues. Monday – Yr 5, Tuesday – Yr 4, Thursday – Yr 3, Friday – Yr 6. Any questions or concerns with Surf Ed, please email srobinson@redlands.nsw.edu.au.
