Junior Sport
Athletics Carnival
Glorious weather and the very impressive Sydney Olympic Park track played host to the Junior School Athletics Carnival yesterday. With such great weather it was tough to keep the Carnival to time with so many students eagerly participating in the range of events on offer. Cowper again managed to stave off the other Houses in a closely fought battle with Dumolo, the big improvers, jumping into second place.
Age Champions and Runners Up and the Redlands Athletics team for HICES Carnival will be named in a short Assembly on Friday.
Many thanks to the fabulous Junior School staff who put in such a dedicated effort in creating a really fun filled and encouraging day for all students.
Term 4 Summer Sport Choices
Thanks to everyone who have put their summer choices in already. Some of the more popular sports have already filled their quota. Sports are limited in numbers primarily for safety and availability of equipment by our suppliers. We do our best to have everyone involved in a sport they are keen on, so if you’ve missed out on your first choice, do let us know on juniorsport@redlands.nsw.edu.au and we’ll place you on a wait list.
AFL
AFL Girls are fired up and ready to go for their first round of matches this Saturday at Moore Park West.
Our Yr 5/6 boys will be looking to turn the tables on St Pats in their final round on 10 August.
The Yr 3/4 team will be involved in the AFL Spring Challenge, a series of Friday night matches with eight games over four weeks starting on 6 September. Yrs 3 and 4 boys interested in playing in Friday games should come and speak to Mr Carter in the Sports Office.
Rugby
Our Sevens Boys continue to turn up the heat on their opponents. This week in their final round of games, they’ll be taking on the toughest sevens teams in two matches across the morning. Wallaby Legend David Campese will be along at the Sevens to offer some tips and insights.
Yr 5/6 v Barker on Field 3 at 10.00am then v Newington Lindfield at 10.20am
Yr 3/4 v Knox Black on Field 6 at 8.40am then Newington Lindfield on Field 1 at 9.20am.
Football
This weekend sees the final round of matches for IPSHA Football. Having the Redlands Oval this year has enabled our first on-venue hosting for Football ever, so we welcome any parent feedback.
Our Yr 6 teams are being hosted by Mosman Prep as per the original draw with C team drawn as a bye. As we’ve played the whole season a squad, with players playing up and down across the grades, any players from the C team who are free and available are encouraged to attend the B match at 8.00am. Mosman Prep will be providing players and spectators with bacon and egg rolls and baked goods as a celebration of their Winter season. The A match is at 9.00am.
All other matches are as per the original draw.
Winter Before School Training Schedule
The Term 3 sporting calendar, showing all training, matches and events is available on Redlands Pulse.
For all trainings on the Junior School Oval, please use your own discretion in extreme rain and weather situations. Often parents and students will have left home to attend before we can make a realistic judgement on the weather. If there is no danger of lightning, nor heavy rain which would soak anyone training outdoors, our aim is to go ahead and run the session. Coaches and/or staff will be in attendance. It’s not always possible to find an alternative training venue, but students will be supervised until school begins in this circumstance.
