Junior Sport
Sports Photos
Photos of our Winter Sports teams, as well as Snowsports reps, Redlands Swimming and Cross Country teams, will be taken during school next Wednesday. Players who are representing Redlands at NSNA or IPSHA sports MUST bring their match playing uniform. The photo schedule will be posted in all classrooms and around the school in the leadup to photo day. Snowsports reps should bring their Redlands fleece.
Cross Country
The Redlands Cross Country team will be on their way home from Orange Anglican Grammar School as this week’s Note Day comes to you. I look forward to bringing you some great pics from rural Orange and great news of some excellent results in next week’s edition.
Sports Captain Up and Away Again!
Lachlan Carmichael is out of class again this week, this time representing NSWCIS at the NSWPSSA AFL Championships. Lachy recently starred as a guard for the CIS Basketball team in their tilt at the PSSA Championships, starting every match and leading the team to a Grand Final berth.
Lachy’s CISAFL team are currently undefeated heading into the Semi Finals and will be hoping for a strong game against NSW South Coast to lead to a title shot in Thursday afternoon’s Grand Final.
CIS representation is a big deal with places highly sought after with students from a huge range of schools across NSW. Very, very few students represent NSWCIS at two sports, it’s even rarer for an athlete to be chosen to represent NSWCIS in two different team sports. Lachy is indeed rare here. The last Redlands student from the Junior School to achieve this feat was Kate Stanbridge, current Yr 11 student, who represented in Basketball and Tennis.
IPSHA Football
Our Yr 6 A team took on Coogee Prep and came away with 2-2 draw after leading right up until the last kick of the game. Rory Mantell stood tall for the team and George Procter showed his versatility and engine playing Centre midfield and working double time with two players missing.
6B and 6C teams enjoyed their trip to Central Coast with a draw and a tightly fought loss.
5B and 5D teams enjoyed 3-2 victories at Sydney Grammar and all the Yr 5 teams will be excited to be back at home this weekend at Redlands Oval.
Matches at Redlands Oval continue to draw happy crowds and provide great conditions for some excellent football. This week Yrs 3 and 4 played tense matches. This week, with our Yr 4 and 5 teams at home, the Canteen will open as a trial. So head on down for breakfast and a great morning’s sport viewing with Senior Netball in Dunnet Hall and Football on the Oval.
Rugby Sevens
Our Rugby Sevens boys continue to fly the Redlands flag at the Rugby Sevens Gala each weekend. Our Yr 5/6 team, despite going down in both matches last weekend, strung together some great play and seemed on the verge of clicking into the next gear. Coach Mr Hugh Brakell is super impressed with the work ethic amongst the boys and their evolution as a group.
IPSHA Hockey
Despite missing some star players last week, our girls battled really hard and came up with a 2-0 win. Heidi De Saxe caught the eye of the IPSHA and CIS team manager for next year with her dynamic play and Iona Gait stood strong with her intelligent play.
AFL
After missing out in tight games over the first two weeks of the season, the AFL boys broke out against Waverley and were 80 point winners in a dominant performance. First timer Flynn Evans-Beard kicked a ‘Buddy – like’ four goal haul playing as a tall marking target up front, Kosta Mangos goalled and the team were on fire kicking away after the first quarter and never headed back.
The draw for the AFL season is available on Redlands Pulse and has been emailed to players. AFL training is on Friday from 7.15am and is open to all interested in AFL Football.
Girls AFL will be available for students from Yrs 5 and 6 during Term 3. As a trial sport, we’ll work really hard and be super adaptable to try and have as many players involved as possible. Girls interested in playing AFL matches on Saturday mornings in Term 3 should sign up in the Sports Office ASAP.
Netball
Our Yr 6A team returned to the winners circle and look to be building a strong season. Our other girls are working hard and it’s great to see strong numbers at the morning sessions and the girls working at improving their skills and gameplay.
Wednesday morning Netball sessions are run by Leonie Stewart. Leonie is something of a coaching guru and her weekly Wednesday before school clinics are well worth it! Leonie is keen to pack as much time into the sessions as possible and her and the coaches will be starting their Wednesday session at 7.00am in Dunnet Hall NOT 7.15am. Please arrive at 7.00am to make the most of this wonderful opportunity to work with an iconic Netball coach.
Winter Before School Training Schedule
For all trainings on the Junior Campus Oval, please use your own discretion in extreme rain and weather situations. Often parents and students will have left home to attend before we can make a realistic judgement on the weather. If there is no danger of lightning, nor heavy rain which would soak anyone training outdoors, our aim is to go ahead and run the session. Coaches and/or staff will be in attendance. It’s not always possible we can find an alternative training venue, but students will be supervised until school begins in this circumstance. See below for the link.
