Winter Sport Selections

Despite having barely begun our summer programs, the winter season approaches quickly and we are now starting to  organise teams, fields and coaches. Trybooking will be open on Friday in Week 4 for parents and students to make selections for the upcoming winter season.

Mouthguard Fittings

Profit Mouthguards are coming to the Junior School to fit mouthguards. These professionally fitted mouthguards are customised with colours and phone number, will be fitted to your child and be delivered back to the school for collection in time for the winter sport season trainings.

Fitting times are available from 7.15 – 8.30am on Friday 22 February. Please email juniorsport@redlands.nsw.edu.au to confirm a fitting time and be emailed a ProFit client form.

Extra Sport

Don’t forget our great extra sports on offer before and after school. Our Football Skills Squad is an active after school option running on Mondays with Coach Javier.

Speed and agility training with Nathan will return when the new oval upgrade is complete.

IPSHA Sports

IPSHA matches began last weekend and for this week all matches, times and venues are as per the original draw.

Basketball

Basketballers started their season against Cranbrook and Newington Wyvern last weekend and whilst results didn’t all go our way, the signs are good for a strong season. Our Yr 5 and 6 teams enjoyed playing before the 1sts and showed some really great teamwork, passing play was exceptional and I can’t wait to see it tested out on some tougher opposition. All six of our Senior teams were victorious in a great home display.

Our colour teams fought out a couple of tough contests in their first hit out for the season. The colour teams is a new initiative which is designed to give our newer and emerging players a chance to play in a competitive situation without some of the pressure of the IPSHA competition. Players on the colour teams will have home matches every week, be refereed and coached by our Representative coaches and referees on Saturdays and work with our leading development coach on a Wednesday. Game play is a great way for players to improve and gain experience and it’s hoped that with the increase in game time and more opportunities to be involved in the game, that the colour team players skill development will be expedited. We hope to have developed the players enough to add additional teams to the IPSHA competition in Term 4.

Our Junior teams took the road trip to Cranbrook where they showed some promise. More hard work under the basket in practice and toughness under the basket will help. Coaches Cooper and Sam are both super excited by the prospects of this young group and their first wins won’t be far away.

Girls’ Football

Girls’ Football kicks off this weekend and players and parents have been emailed the draw and team lists.

Junior School Swimming Carnival

The Junior School Swimming Carnival is set to take place on Wednesday 20 February. The Carnival will focus on House spirit and participation in the water. To help encourage participation, again this year we are offering the two pools (25m and 50m) to all students from all age groups. Age Championship points can only be attained by swimming in the 50m pool, students choosing to swim in the 25m pool will be swimming for House points only. The 50m pool will be awarding points according to time except for freestyle where Finals will be held. Every student swimming in a race gains a point for their House. Students may only swim in one pool per stroke. Place ribbons of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th will be awarded in both pools and to every race.

All students are expected to swim in at least one Carnival event.
