Junior Sport

Basketball

Dunnet Hall was abuzz last weekend with the return of some of our favourite Junior School Basketball alumni. Our Junior School teams played their regular matches as curtain raiser games for the Girls and Boys 1sts. Our Junior teams set the tone for the day playing some fantastic team Basketball and taking the points in the A and B matches, our C team going down narrowly on the buzzer.

It was a really welcome return for so many basketballers playing back in Dunnet Hall for the first time since they’d moved on from Junior School. Despite going down in a tough match against Central Coast, our 1sts Boys showed the Junior School crowd a brand of fighting athleticism which had them pushing their fancied opponents for a large portion of the match.

Despite going down by just three points, our Girls 1sts showed their skills and fight in spades. Both teams were tremendous role models to our Junior students, displaying sportsmanship, fair play and it was obvious to the whole crowd, the hard work and dedication they have put into their game to play at that level. They are certainly players to aspire to for our young basketballers.

Thanks to everyone who made it down to support both teams. The atmosphere in Dunnet Hall was nothing short of electric.

Our Yr 3 and 4 basketballers are really starting to hit their straps too, piling on points last weekend and coming away with two hard fought wins at Newington.

Match times and venues  for the Yr 3/4 teams have changed this weekend. All matches are now at Trinity Strathfield – Llandilo Avenue, Strathfield. D at 7.30am, C at 8.15am, B at 9.00am, A at 9.45am.

Cricket

Our cricketers faced a stern test after their measured win the week prior and had a tough match against an exceptionally talented Trinity team. Our team were restricted to a low total after bravely facing up to three of the quickest pace bowlers they’d seen this summer, but the fight was still there. They take on Mosman Prep this week in a chance to reset their season.

Indoor Hockey

Redlands Hockey Girls had an amazing experience at the State Indoor Hockey championships. Jess van Extel (along with Eloise Trueman and Freya Gait in Yr 7) played for Northern Sydney and Beaches in Div 2 and won three of their four pool games, beating Dubbo, Goulburn and Southern Highlands. They lost a hard fought Semi Final to Sydney South but played with impressive determination. Lauren Hill was also competing as a friendship player for Metro South West Sydney.

Photos

We love photos and showing off your great action shots from Sports fixtures on Saturday. If anyone has any pics or takes any, I love to use them to showcase our current teams and past teams on the rolling display in Dunnet Hall. Please send me the pics, or a link or even pop them in on a USB (it will be returned) to the Sports Office or email them to acarter@redlands.nsw.edu.au.
