Junior Sport

All fixtures this week are as per the original draw except for Red Tennis team, whose venue has changed to Sydney Centre for Tennis, 33 Mallett Street, Camperdown. Match time is still 8.00am.

Our morning sessions are really taking off with nearly 90 students training this morning across the range of before school offerings. Our Basketball teams had almost 60 students training this Wednesday and the buzz through the gym was great. Mr Rogers’ Boxing Fitness classes are proving hugely popular and we’re already looking to develop skills in footballers for 2019 with skills and drills football happening on the cricket nets on a Wednesday morning for any interested players.

Coming off the back of a weekend with some great games and tremendous wins, our Basketball program is flying. Dunnet Hall proved a tough fortress to crack for our guests Trinity and our teams looked strong. I had the pleasure of coaching some of our teams at Trinity and was super impressed with our tenacity across the board. Our kids showed loads of fight and battled hard against some tough opponents.

Girls basketballers are really benefiting from the early sessions, and looked well drilled in the fundamental skills, taking out four of their six matches last weekend and going down narrowly in high scoring matches in the other two. Great signs ahead for our girls who, for many, are having their first tilt at competitive Basketball.

For parents looking for active after school options for their kids in 2019, Monday sees Coach Javier Carpio running a skills and drills academy for Football enthusiasts, running from 3.30-5.00pm. Javier has the kids working through skills and Football specific fitness sessions. Sessions are $30 and students are welcome to come down to Redlands House courts for a free trial this term.

Surf Education

Please check your online permission for the upcoming Surf Education program. Students from Yrs 3-6 will be attending Surf Education lessons as part of the PE Curriculum in Weeks 4 and 5. As we are entering the Sydney summer it’s a great chance for students to be reminded of safety on the beach and in the water. The kids will be under the instruction of Surf Live Saving, will be undertaking a range of rescues, water danger identification, basic first aid and some fun beach games. The program this year is being administered at Freshwater beach with a new surf tuition provider. It looks like it’ll be awesome.

Photos

We love photos and showing off your great action shots from sports fixtures on Saturday. If anyone has any pics or takes any, I love to use them to showcase our current teams and past teams on the rolling display in Dunnet Hall. Please send me the pics, or a link or even pop them in on a USB (it will be returned) to the Sports Office or email them
