Junior Sport
Term 4 always kicks off in a hurry and this one will be no different. IPSHA fixtures for Basketball, Girls Basketball and Tennis start this weekend. The draws for all fixtures have been emailed to players and are available here.
Basketball
We have expanded our Basketball program from Term 1 by eight teams. The Blue and Gold teams that played intra-squad fixtures early in the year will take on opponents from other schools after showing tremendous skill development and approach to games in their rookie season. Our Yr 5/6 teams are all at indoor venues this weekend. Rain shouldn’t affect play.
For our Yr 3/4 team playing at Sydney Grammar St Ives, the venue is outdoor and may be impacted by weather. If the host school informs me of a cancellation, I’ll get that information out to parents via SMS immediately, but please remember, we are informed of cancellation by the host school!
Sign up for our Girl’s teams was tremendously popular and we’ve added six teams into the Girls competition for Term 4. They’ll take on teams from other IPSHA Girls schools over the next six weeks in what for many will be their first Basketball experience. All of our Girls venues this week are indoor so there shouldn’t be any problems with rain!
Holiday Basketball Camp
Our basketballers worked hard through the final week of camp to set themselves up for a great second half of the season. The three day camp had nearly 50 basketballers in attendance and the skills, drills and game play were exhausting to watch. Keep an eye out this weekend, some of the skills on show were exceptional.
Tennis
Tennis teams have been selected and have been communicated to players and parents by email. Both teams are playing at home at Cammeray this weekend, so it’ll be a great show of team spirit and camaraderie across our Tennis group. Fingers crossed for fair weather. If there are any weather problems an SMS will be sent as early as possible.
Cricket
Our cricketers have a bye this week and will have a net session at 9.30am on the Junior School nets.
Surf Education
Please check your online permission for the upcoming Surf Education program. Students from Yrs 3-6 will be attending Surf Education lessons as part of the PE Curriculum in Weeks 4 and 5. As we are entering the Sydney summer, it’s a great chance for students to be reminded of safety on the beach and in the water. The kids will be under the instruction of Surf Live Saving, will be undertaking a range of rescues, water danger identification, basic first aid and some fun beach games. The program this year is being administered at Freshwater beach with a new surf tuition provider. It looks like it’ll be awesome.
Photos
We love photos and showing off your great action shots from sports fixtures on Saturday. If anyone has any pics or takes any, I love to use them to showcase our current teams and past teams on the rolling display in Dunnet Hall. Please send me the pics, or a link or even pop them in on a USB (it will be returned) to the Sports Office or email them.
