Junior Sport

Our annual Junior School Swimming Carnival took place at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre yesterday much to the delight of our Year 3 students, as this was their first carnival for the Junior School. Our first House meetings on the oval on Tuesday gave our House Captains the first opportunity to address their ‘troops’ and set the tone for the carnival ahead. With the Swimming Carnival the first of our big 3 carnivals, there was much excitement leading up to the first race, our youngest swimmers being the Under 8s and Under 9s 25m and 50m Freestyle event.

Knowing the carnivals can be long for spectators, children and adults in the stands were kept entertained by some dancing competitions with various playlists. It was great to see our war cry competitions were back again in full voice after their return last year. This year we continued with a separate House spirit trophy that was presented to the winning house on the day. This trophy as well as certificates handed out by the House Captains will continue across all our carnivals for recognition related to non-performance-based results.

While our Swimming Carnival embodies these many cherished traditions of primary school swimming carnivals, it’s dual purpose is also serves as a selection carnival, determining the Redlands team for the upcoming HICES Swim Championships. We congratulate these students and wish them the best of luck. The team will be notified in due course.

With the continuation of the entrant number system this year we can track the participation rate of all Houses as well as being able to provide feedback to students across their age groups in the strokes they entered.

The class relays in the 25m pool, organised by the teachers and in some cases the students themselves proved to be a hit with some fierce rivalry between the classes. Thank you to the parents and families who attended who travelled out Homebush to support the carnival as well as our House and Sport Captains for whom this was their first carnival as leaders at an all-day event.

Congratulations to Roseby House who won the House cup. Congratulations to House Captains Camilla and Charlie, who led their team to victory and got to raise the cup in victory for 2024.

Representative Sports- Saturday morning match wear

Just a reminder for all families who represent Redlands in Saturday sport only Redlands Sports Uniforms and match day kit is to be worn. Each family should own either a school tracksuit and or a fleece that they can wear over the top of their playing kit if they are cold. If your child feels the cold they may play in their fleece if their match allows it.

Any incorrect item will now be confiscated as all students have received the same message.

Wednesday Sport inability to train

If your child has an injury that prevents them from training, please send through an email to Junior Sport juniorsport@redlands.nsw.edu.au requesting they ‘sit out’ of training for that particular session. We can then forward this to the relevant external coaching staff. Where applicable please include when they can return to normal training, so coaches are aware of this. That way coaching staff are aware of an injury that prevents them from participating at the venue but also allows us to be aware of periods where they are medically required to ‘sit out’.

Representative Sport Student Absence

If students are absent on match day, parents are required to complete this online absence form. This will allow your responses to be passed on electronically to your child’s coach efficiently and at short notice. The Student Absence link can also be found on the Junior School Sport Page on Redlands Pulse.

Please don’t hesitate to view our Sport Information page on Redlands Pulse if you have any questions pertaining to Sport.
