Junior Sport
Summer Sport
Wednesday Summer Sports have begun and, with beautiful warm spring weather, our teams got off to a great start. Our surfers have had some great conditions and the new sailing and SUP venues have been a big hit with our water recreation kids.
Basketball trials are well underway and our coaches have been testing agility, skills and fitness across all of our basketballers in an effort to nail down our team selections. Before school training has begun and skills and drills sessions will be running in Dunnet Hall each Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings before school. 7.15-8.00am. It’s great to start the school day with a workout and sessions are available for players in the development, mixed and girls programs. It’s bound to help too, more practice and time with ball in hand will always help to build skills. Our coaches are there and ready.
HICES Athletics Reps
Redlands athletes hit the track at CIS last week with some great performances, with many of our 20 strong HICES representatives making finals or performing personal bests. Our Junior Boys relay team won through to the Final in a hot time of 1 minute flat. Our Senior boys relay team, after qualifying 9th fastest for the Final, improved two spots to finish 7th in a dazzling 55.5 seconds.
Lucius Midas and Mitchell Travers-Wolf rounded out their days both making 200m Finals in their respective age groups after anchoring their relay teams.
Isaac Brooks ran one of the bravest 800m races I’ve ever seen, going hard early and then relying on grit and competitive spirit to hold off all comers until the final 80 metres. He finished in 5th as the field reeled him in, the heat of the competition knocking five seconds off his already impressive personal best, his new mark 2.27.82.
Charlotte Hugman won through to represent CIS at the NSWPSSA championships after finishing with a silver medal in the Girls 100m. Good luck to Charlotte in that upcoming meet.
Holiday Basketball Clinics
Basketballers can attend school holiday skills clinics which are slated for 8, 9 and 10 October. Check in with juniorsport@redlands.nsw.edu.au for details.
Photos
We love photos and showing off your great action shots from sports fixtures on Saturday. If anyone has any pics or takes any, I love to use them to showcase our current teams and past teams on the rolling display in Dunnet Hall. Please send me the pics, or a link or even pop them in on a USB (it will be returned) to the Sports Office or email them.
