Junior Sport
Welcome back to all families and students I hope you and your family enjoyed the break. We resume our Representative Summer Sport Season from Term 1 with our interschool matches beginning this Saturday. Our Term 4 Summer Sports program for our Girls Rep Basketball season along with our Non-Representative Wednesday Sport program commenced this week in beautiful conditions.
Basketball singlets and Touch Football singlets have been distributed to those students who attended one of the four pick up opportunities throughout the week and these will appear as a hire charge on your Term 4 fees. Basketball shorts can be purchased from the School’s Uniform Shop.
At our start of term assembly, I reminded our students about the three ‘rights’ and how they impact upon their involvement in Redlands Sport. Students are asked to adhere to these;
- Right place
- Right time
- Right equipment
It may be worth opening up some discussion on how these can be followed at home in preparation for Wednesday and Saturday sport. Hearing “my mum or dad didn’t pack my towel for swimming” or “I don’t know what time my game is” is not what we are trying to instil in students as they prepare for Summer Sport.
Building students’ responsibility will make for a much more pleasant experience for all. If they ask you questions about their sport or one of our carnivals, direct them to the Sport page on Redlands Pulse or better still if they have their device, you can always share the link to the Redlands Navigation video so they can research what they are after.
Term 1 Summer Sport Nomination 2024
Information re nominations for Term 1 Summer Sport for 2024 was sent to all current Yr 2 -5 families in Week 9 last term. Families with students currently in Year 2, 3, 4 and 5 were asked to nominate their child’s 2024 Term 1 Sport selection choice, be it a Representative Sport or Non-Representative Sport. The association that we belong to for our Sport required this data in Week 1 of Term 4 so they can structure sport for the following season. For our Non-Representative Sport program, our external contractors also require this information to block in space based on the number of participants in each sport.
Information on the sports on offer for both our Representative and Non-Representative programs can be found on Pulse in the Sports Information booklet.
Please note that students who select a Term 1 Representative Sport for 2024 will continue that same sport in Term 4 as our competition is split into two sections
The Sport nomination process was;
(1) Thursday 17 September- nominations sent out via Pulse to all families
(2) Sunday 8 October- Registration link closed.
(3) Monday 9 October- Registration for late joining families to Redlands in 2024.

Sport Calendar
The updated sport calendar for Term 4 onwards is available online on Junior School Sport Page. You can also view it by selecting here; 2023 JS Sport Calendar
Redlands App – Communication
In Term 4, all Redlands Sport Activities will continue to be through Pulse and the Redlands App. Here you will be able to see all activities, teams and groups your child is part of, all scheduled lessons and locations and receive instant push notifications for any changes or cancellations.
Representative Sport Student Absence
If students are absent on match day, parents are required to complete this online absence form. This will allow your responses to be passed on electronically to your child’s coach efficiently and at short notice. The Student Absence link can also be found on the Junior School Sport Page on Redlands Pulse.
Representative Sports – Saturday Morning Match Wear
Just a reminder for all families who represent Redlands in Saturday sport, only Redlands Sports Uniforms and match day kit are to be worn. Each family should own either a school tracksuit and or a fleece that they can wear over the top of their playing kit if they are cold. Any incorrect item will now be confiscated as all students have received the same message.
Representative Sport Team Movement
In regard to representative sport and the movement of players across ability based teams, it is transparent for all parties as unexplained team movements sometimes cause unnecessary stress. At Redlands our teams are ‘fluid’, meaning teams may change from week to week depending on 3 main criteria:
ABILITY – in direct comparison to other students across the sport
ATTENDANCE – any student who misses 2 games in a season unrelated to sickness may be moved
ATTITUDE – this is based on behaviour at trainings, on game day and not limited to the sporting arena
Athletics All Schools
Congratulations to Jake O’Sullivan (Year 6) who represented Redlands in the school holidays running in the 100m event in the 2023 Athletics All Schools Carnival.
Please don’t hesitate to view our Sport Information page on Redlands Pulse if you have any questions pertaining to Sport.
Have a great term.
