Summer Sport
Wednesday summer sports will begin on 12 September. For our basketballers, it will be trials for three weeks to try and nail down correct and accurate teams. Teams from Term 1 are taken into consideration, but it’s also likely and/or possible that new players or new skills have emerged over the winter.
I’d love to see more of our basketballers in Dunnet Hall each Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings before school from 7.15-8.00am. It’s a great to start the school day with a workout and sessions are available for players in both the mixed and girls programs. It’s bound to help too, more practice and time with ball in hand will always help to build skills. Our coaches are there and ready.
NSNA Netball
There were some remarkable games at Willoughby last Friday night. It was the business end of the season with elimination finals taking place and Redlands 12 and 14 both narrowly won their way through to Grand Finals this coming Friday. Redlands 14 in particular was a nail biter – tied after the regulation four quarters, teams played extra time and despite going down by a goal early, our girls fought back to tie the score just before extra time ran out. In a performance composed beyond their years, Redlands 14 took the next phase all in their stride – defending desperately and then capitalising on some great team play for Zoe Twining to land a long bomb for the Golden Goal. It was super exciting and this week has plenty of excitement in store also. Grand Finals don’t come around all the time!
Redlands 12 played a great team game and jumped ahead early in the second quarter and maintained a never quite comfortable lead, right through to the end. Their final minutes played out in monsoon-like rain, with crowd, players and umpires all ducking for cover – soaked to the skin as the final hooter blew. Fingers crossed for better weather this Friday, so that our girls can celebrate their wonderful year together and without freezing! Good luck to both teams for the Grand Final and congratulations on their wonderful seasons.
HICES Athletics Reps
Redlands athletes Keira Attard, Daniel Benoleil, Jeffrey Benoleil, Isaac Brooks, Lachlan Carmichael, Oscar Dalmeida, Mischa Fabig, Lara Farrell, Alex Fitzpatrick, Harrison Graetz, Charlotte Hugman, Noah Kharzoo, Lucius Midas, Eva Osborne, Hugo Scott, Lachlan Svensson, Mitchell Travers Wolf and Zoe Waterfield have all qualified to represent HICES at the NSWCIS Athletics Carnival next Thursday. It’s a great Redlands representation at such a high level. Having looked at some of the qualifying times and performances, I think some of our guys and girls have a red hot chance to go one step further and make the CIS team for the NSWPSSA Championships. Our relay teams, Senior and Junior Boys and Senior Girls, will need their best performance but could do really well at State.
Photos
We love photos and showing off your great action shots from sports fixtures on Saturday. If anyone has any pics or takes any in the future, I love to use them to showcase our current teams and past teams on the rolling display in Dunnet Hall. Please send me the pics, or a link or even pop them in on a USB (it will be returned) to the Sports Office or Adrian Carter.
