IPSHA Cross Country Report

Well done to all our students who ran at IPSHA Cross Country Carnival last week in beautiful conditions. We had a small team who competed, and they all had great runs, some improving their 2km and 3km times significantly.  Congratulations to Charlotte Roy, Reina Sabharwal, Rafael Mascheroni, Amelia Svensson, Kirrily Stone, Edward Grinham, Piper Aubin, Ella Liira, Kyler Simpson and Aidan Donnelly.

A short video of their day can be viewed here.

CIS AFL Selection

Congratulations to Owen Beck on his selection in the 2023 Boys CIS AFL side. Owen will now travel to Batemans Bay in May to trial for the NSW PSSA AFL team. We wish Owen the best of luck as he prepares for this carnival.

Junior School Coaching Staff

We would like the Redlands community to join us in wishing one of our coaches the best of luck as she prepares to commence her 2023 AFL Season shortly. Our students know Montana as one of their coaches, she coached our Year 5/6 Basketball C and D teams in Term 1, our Girls AFL side this season as well as our Year 3 and 4 Netball teams in their upcoming season. For those of you who do not know Montana Ham, was the number one draft pick in the 2022 draft and nominated New South Wales in the state-based draft. Montana started playing football when she was just four years old and has played in four NAB League campaigns, being named best on ground in Vic Metro’s championship this season. She was also judged MVP for the National AFLW Academy side in their game against the U23 All-Stars. Coach Scott Gowans said: “Montana is an elite talent. She is a 180cm midfielder who can play forward as well. She loves contested footy, has clean hands and a strong work ethic. We will play Montana in various roles to suit the team’s needs. Fans can also expect to see her spend some time across the half-back line.

For those of you whose child is coached by Montana you may wish to show them this ‘day in the life of’ clip. There will be an opportunity for Redlands students to watch her play at North Sydney Oval this season.

Saturday Sport Fixtures

IPSHA (Round 1) for Winter Representative Sports will begin on Saturday 29 April. The fixtures (draw) for Term 2 can be found in the quick links section on Pulse and through the Redlands App under your child’s activities. Please note students are required to meet their coach for warm up 30 mins prior to the listed time. There may be occasions where host schools change a time or location midweek and when this occurs the draw will be updated and you will receive an automatic notification from the Redlands App, same process will take place for Wet Weather.

For Rugby families whose child is playing 7s Rugby, your fixtures are released by IPSHA (Sporting Association that we belong too) on Thursday each week so your times and opposition will remain blank until then.

Fencing

One of our resident fencers experienced more success on the weekend competing in the Sydney Olympic Cup up in the Under 14s age group. Claire Liang (Yr 5) won Bronze at this competition. The previous week Claire won two Silver medals for Redlands in the Roberta Nutt Shield competition on Saturday (in the U11 & U13 age groups), as well as a Bronze medal in the Sydney Olympic Cup (U12 age group) on Sunday. Well done Claire and we wish her luck for her remaining competitions.

Cross Country Carnival

The Cross Country Carnival which will now take place on Wednesday 17 May for all Junior School students. The carnival will be held at St Leonard’s Park, North Sydney.

Each student will complete the course twice (two laps) to achieve 2.5km total distance.

Our aim is for this to be a fun experience for everyone on the day but also provide a great experience and challenge for those aiming to progress to HICES and CIS where the courses present many different challenges.

Upon arrival at the venues students in each grade will be divided into two groups (Boys Championship Race and a Girls Championship Race) which will run as separate events.

After the event the result will be sorted into age groups with the top 5 runners in boys and the top 5 runners in girls in each age group will make up the Redlands team that will participate at the HICES Carnival on the 23 May.

Please refer to our Cross Country Carnival page on Pulse for all information relating to our 3rd major carnival this year.
