HICES Swimmers at CIS Swimming

Congratulations to all our swimmers who swam during the week at the CIS Swimming championships representing Redlands and HICES.
Winter Sport Preparation – transition from Summer Sport to Winter Sport
As you would be aware this Wednesday (15 March) was the first Wednesday in our transition from Summer Sport to Winter Sport and specifically for our Winter Representative Sports the first week of sport trials and team allocation.
Compulsory Sport Trials
If your child has elected to play a Representative Sport they will need to attend another trial on Saturday 25 March (7.30am-11.30am), Wednesday 29 March and Wednesday 5 March. If students who are listed in representative sports do not attend these trials they will have YET TO TRIAL listed next to their name and will be assessed in the coming weeks when the season commences. Year 5 students who are on camp will trial on Saturday 25 March. We don’t consider previous teams or outside experience if your child is absent at these trials. Please refer to this link for exact times and locations. 2023 Winter Sport Trials. Parents and or carers are not permitted on site during sport trials.
Representative Sport Team Lists
Once teams are selected and for weekly team selections, please refer to the Term 2 Winter Sport team lists. These will be updated on Pulse following each fixture. Please remember that our Redlands Representative teams are fluid, meaning teams may change week to week depending on three main criteria: Ability, Attendance and Attitude. Any team movements will be discussed with your child by their coach. Given that we play in a graded competition against schools, we aim to provide the most competitive team for that round. There may be times where your child is asked to also fill in on a second game when absences are high. Students are reminded to check their team lists each Thursday for any changes in preparation for their Saturday game.

Cross Country Carnival
The Cross Country Carnival will now take place on Monday 8 May for all Junior School students. The carnival will be held at Tunks Park, Cammeray.
We will have full access to the entire Tunks Park fields and students will enjoy an open and flat running course. Each student will complete the course twice (two laps) to achieve 2.5km total distance.
Our aim is for this to be a fun experience for everyone on the day but also provide a great experience and challenge for those aiming to progress to HICES and CIS where the courses present many different challenges.
Upon arrival at the venues, students in each grade will be divided into two groups (Boys Championship Race and a Girls Championship Race) which will run as separate events.
After the event the result will be sorted into age groups with the top 5 runners in boys and the top 5 runners in girls in each age group will make up the Redlands team that will participate at the HICES Carnival on the 23 May.
Please refer to our Cross-Country Carnival page on Pulse for all information relating to our 3rd major carnival this year.
