Junior Sport

Junior Sport

Welcome to Term 3, we hope you and your family enjoyed the holidays despite the inclement weather. We had a large number of Junior School students involved in Snowsports over the break as well as participating in the Redlands Cup and was great to hear that our students were great ambassadors for the school on and off the snow. Thank you to our Junior School teachers and staff who assisted over the 10 days. We wish those students who progress to state championships the best of luck in their preparation.

We have a very busy term with the winter sport season for Rugby and Football wrapping up in three weeks, our girls AFL season commencing this week, our Athletics Carnival this term as well as Winter Football Gala day in August.

Last week all Junior School families would have received a detailed note outlining the term ahead for both Representative Sport and Non-Representative Sport. The information and links within this note will assist you over the next 10 weeks so please make this your first reference for any questions you may have. A few important reminders can be found below.

Sport Calendar

We have a Sport Calendar for each Term. To view the 2022 Term 3 Sports Calendar please click here

Athletics Carnival

All students will be participating in this carnival on Wednesday 10 August in both track and field events. More information will be sent closer to the date. Students have completed a unit of work in PE classes this term across all field events and track preparation with finalists for Long Jump, High Jump and Shot Put advertised closer to the date. Highlights video from previous carnival and what to expect can be viewed here.

Winter Gala Day

We will again be running our Winter Football Gala Day (Saturday 20 August) for all students regardless if you play Football and or Sport for Redlands. Students represent their houses in Football games in a one off winner takes all gala day. Highlights video from previous gala day can be viewed here.

Wednesday Sport

Normal Wednesday Winter Sport resumes on Wednesday 20 July. If you need a reminder as to what your child has selected for their Winter Sport choice as well as team selections please refer to the Term 3 Winter Sport lists. These sports will continue until the last week of term with the exception of Rugby and Football which will finish their season on Saturday 6 August. For timings and venues for all Wednesday sport please refer to the Winter Sport Training Schedule. Please remember if you are picking up your child directly from the venue you must be there before the returning bus leaves for the journey back to school. Please note these buses will not wait for late parents and no child can be left at the venue for late location pick-ups. All sports this term will finish and return students back to school at regular finish time of 3:20pm, traffic dependent with the exception of Gymnastics.

Wet Weather

In the case of wet weather on a Wednesday, updates will be posted on our Wet Weather Pulse page. If you pick your child up directly at the venue, please refer to this page prior to going to ensure that they are at the venue as alternative plans may have been made depending on the location, weather and provider.

Representative Sport Absences

If your child is unable to attend a training session or Saturday fixture, please complete our Sports Absence form located on Pulse. This will allow Sports department staff and coaches to view prior and post fixtures and allow for another student to be contacted to fill in to make up numbers. As mentioned above, unexplained absences will affect your child’s gradings. As Representative Sport is not compulsory at Redlands, we expect all students who have committed to a team, commit to each game and training session for the duration of the season. Absences due to ‘club’ commitments are not permitted.

Wednesday Sport Inability to Train

If your child has an injury that prevents them from training, please send through a note requesting they ‘sit out’ of training for that particular session. Where applicable please include when they can return to normal training so coaches are aware of this. That way coaching staff are aware of an injury that prevents them from participating at the venue but also allows us to be aware of periods where they are medically required to ‘sit out’.
