Junior Sport
IPSHA Sports
Our IPSHA sport season has now finished. In many areas we’ve had a successful season, with highlights in our Yr 3 and 4 Football. Our Yr 3 Football teams have shown some tremendous improvement and played beautiful football on their way to winning seasons. Thanks to everyone for their continued support of our sports programs over the winter.
Many of our Yr 5 and 6 teams have faced some difficulties this season. Be it through our own numbers or tough opposition, our teams have battled courageously showing great sportsmanship and team spirit throughout the season. I’m really confident that the learning opportunity that comes from players and teams being tested against adversity is one of the true great learnings from sport.
Winning certainly isn’t everything and the IPSHA philosophy of playing sport for the joy and exercise has been wholly embraced by our teams this season and it’s been a pleasure to watch.
Before school training for Winter Sports has also now concluded (except for Netball which continues on until Semis and Finals in the NSNA competition). Our team awards for the Winter season will be presented on Monday 16 September Junior School Assembly.
NSNA Netball
The run into NSNA’s finals is poised to be exciting with five of our six teams all in contention. Favourable results will see all five Redlands teams playing in the first week of finals.
Athletics
Our 60-athlete strong Redlands Athletics team is named and posted on Dunnet Hall noticeboard and selected members have been emailed. Runners have been put through their paces with SportSpeed coaches during Wednesday technique sessions. Runners will train again Wednesday 22 August and throwers and high jumpers have the opportunity to work with specific throw coaches on Thursday mornings 7-8am on the Junior School Oval. High jumpers will have access to coaching in the gym on Tuesday and Thursdays during lunchtime.
Summer Sports
Thanks to everyone for selecting Summer Sports so promptly. Arrangements are being put in place now for the Summer season and Summer Sport training begins on Wednesday 12 September. Fixtures for Basketball, Tennis and Cricket will begin in Term 4 and before school training for Basketball and Cricket will start in the coming weeks.
Photos
We love photos and showing off your great action shots from sports fixtures on Saturday. If anyone has any pics or takes any in the future, I love to use them to showcase our current teams and past teams on the rolling display in Dunnet Hall. Please send me the pics, or a link or even pop them in on a USB (it will be returned) to the Sports Office or Adrian Carter.
