Winter Sport Trials Complete
We have now concluded our Representative Winter Sport trials in preparation for Term 2. Most of our sports had the full five sessions over the last three weeks to conduct their trials and play their matches and we have been really fortunate to have an all-weather synthetic pitch available to us midweek and on Saturday mornings. By comparison there are some IPSHA schools who have not had a chance to get any of their trials conducted with ground closures.
Students and parents can now view the teams that we will commence our Winter Season, with first training Wednesday 27 April with the first match being Saturday 30 April for Football, Rugby, Hockey and Netball. As explained previously we play in a graded IPSHA competition and as such so too are our teams. Over the trials students in their respective sports underwent direct comparison to their peers in the same drill, skill or match. No club or rep experience, previous Redlands appointments, friendship groups takes a part in this process.
At Redlands our teams are ‘fluid’, meaning teams may change from week to week depending on 3 main criteria:
ABILITY in direct comparison to other students on the team
ATTENDANCE any student who misses 2 games in a season unrelated to sickness may be moved
ATTITUDE this is based on behaviour and general work ethic at trainings, on game day and not limited to the sporting arena
Saturday Matches (Draw)
The Term 2 draw for Saturday morning matches for coaches, parents and staff will be ‘live’ in nature and will be available via the link below and sorted by round and team. Sport draws are not emailed to parents. When changes to times and or grounds come through from host schools during the week these will automatically update this draw, therefore please check this draw Friday evening prior to every game in case it has changed. I have also included the addresses of the venues within the host school to save time and stress once you arrive at a venue for example with 25 playing fields and you have to find Field 1b. Please spend some time navigating this document on your phone or device. Students are required to meet their coach at 30min prior to scheduled start time for warm up, instructions etc.
Student Absence
If students are absent on match day or know ahead of time they are going to be, parents/carers are required to complete this link. This will allow your responses to be passed on electronically to your child’s coach efficiently and at short notice. The Student Absence link can also be found on the Junior School Sport Page on Redlands Pulse.
HICES Netball Trials
We had 5 girls nominated from Redlands to trial for the HICES netball teams today, Seren Guha, Saskia Jelley, Kate Andrews, Tahlia Stone and Olivia Law. All girls performed well in the 10 selection games, with Tahlia Stone being successful in being selected for the 2022 HICES team that will be compete at the CIS championships next term
AFL Paul Kelly Cup
Congratulations to our Yr 5 & 6 boys AFL team and Mr Carter on their performance at the AFL Paul Kelly Cup during the week. The team was made up of new and experienced AFL players but came together on the day to win all their pool games to make their way to the Semi Final only to go down to Cranbrook who ended up losing to Waverley in the Grand Final. Thanks to Soren and Mr Carter for taking the boys out to the cup in what was the hottest day we have had in a while.
