Junior Sport

IPSHA Sports

IPSHA Sport recommences this weekend and we have a few minor alterations for game times and venues:
4 Blue and Red are now both playing on Northern Oval at Macquarie University playing Fields at 11am.

Just a reminder for all of our players and parents – it’s essential that our coaches have the full playing complement ready and available to play at least 20 minutes prior to scheduled match time. A good warm up is essential for all athletes regardless of age or grade. I understand that with early starts and Saturday morning travel it can be difficult, but it’s not really giving our teams a chance to perform to their best if the warm up is spasmodic or incomplete for the whole team.

NSNA Netball

I was excited to see more smiles than ever before at our Redlands Netball matches last Friday night, despite chilly weather and results that weren’t all in our favour, the camaraderie and fun amongst the players were a highlight and a great reminder to me that we can’t always measure how successful our Sports programs are based on win/loss records. Redlands 10 were the main culprits, clearly enjoying the chance to play together and having a blast – despite going down in a tough match.

Football

Our Yr 6 footballers are consolidating as a squad and last week had three great wins in the local derby against Mosman Prep. 6C, despite starting the game light on numbers, battled hard and won 2-0. The 6B and 6A teams also got away with close fought wins. School Captain, Conor Petersen, returned from injury last term and really found his feet this week, netting goals in both C and B matches.

AFL

Our AFL boys carried through their improving form with a last gasp win over Trinity at Marrickville last week. As always, Isaac Brooks led the way, Owen Conder played well returning from injury and Lachlan Carmichael showed he’s got a bright footballing future with another great performance

Rugby

Travel suits our Rugby XV who fared well after the bus trip to the Central Coast last week. Despite missing some key players, our forward pack led the way going down three tries to one in a spirited effort. The lads take on another road trip and another tough school this weekend bus leaving for Tudor House at 7.15am

Hannah Morton – School Sports Australia Champion

Anyone who saw Hannah swim at our Carnival early in Term 1 would not have been mistaken for believing they had watched an elite level performance. Hannah has rewritten Redlands Junior School Swimming records and has continued that form through HICES, NSWCIS, NSWPSSA and now School Sports Australia Championships. Competing for NSW Primary Schools, Hannah again blitzed the field taking gold medals in 50m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke, she took silver in 100m Freestyle and won Gold with teammates in a range of relay events. That makes Hannah Morton an Australian Champion in five events. Through heats, Semi Finals and Finals, Hannah broke her own NSW 50m Backstroke record on three separate occasions. It might never happen, but I hope to see another swimmer of Hannah’s quality in the Redlands cap again.

Term 4 Sports Selections

Thanks to everyone who has entered their Term 4 Sport selections. Summer Sports commence in Week 8 of this term  (Wednesday 12 September) and so we’re keen to lock away quality coaches and facilities. We really appreciate your help in securing your selections early. Trybooking for Junior School Summer Sport Term 4 selections will close Friday 3 August at 5pm.

Athletics Carnival

The Junior School Athletics Carnival is approaching fast and will be held on Wednesday 8 August at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre. Students across Yrs 2-6 are steadily working on developing their techniques across the range of track and field events during PE classes in the lead up to the Carnival.

The below program will give an idea of event timing for the day. Please use the timing as a guide only – if everything goes well – all of our track events run faster (like the kids) and our throwing events will run longer – (more kids throwing it further!).

Photos

We love photos and showing off your great action shots from Sports fixtures on Saturday. If anyone has any pics or takes any, I love to use them to showcase our current teams and past teams on the rolling display in Dunnet Hall. Please send me the pics, or a link or even pop them in on a USB (it will be returned) to the Sports Office.
