Cross Country Carnival
Our annual Junior School Cross Country Carnival took place at Cammeray Golf Club during the week in beautiful conditions. In the final of our big 3 carnivals there was much excitement leading up to the first event especially on the new course from 2020 with more hills and turns. With two events on the same course running the same distance, (Championship and Fun as determined by the Beep test results in class) it was great to see all students put in a big effort no matter what event they were running.
We were also able to have parents, carers and spectators at this event this year and thank you to those in attendance who did a great job in following the crowd control guidelines to make the event as safe as possible for the students.
Over the day and across both events course marshals scattering at checkpoints throughout the course were witness to some acts of sportsmanship, one student actually finished her race carrying two spare shoes that she picked up while running, others ran with a friend who needed more time on one of the 5 hills, others made a pact to run as a group and a few stopped and helped out friends who had tripped over. I am sure there were a lot more that went unnoticed. We also had some very competitive runs especially in our Yr 5 and 6 classes.
Special mention to Finn Gurney in Year 6 who for the second year running recorded the fastest race of the day completing the course in a time of 9:59.77. Fastest female was Olivia Law only a minute behind Finn with a time of 10:59.33.
