NSNA Netball

As we pass the mid way mark of the season all of our teams remain in contention for finals berths. The overall level of play is looking really strong and the combinations across the teams are developing well.

IPSHA Football

Our Yr 3 Red team is cutting a swathe through their opposition at the moment and their results in recent weeks have been outstanding. It’s a great team led by Noah Kharzoo, Aidan Kurtis and Cooper Rinaldo. Everyone on the pitch plays a role and It is rare and impressive to see a team gel so well and play with such maturity as a Yr 3 group.

Our Yr 6 B and C did really well on their road trip to Cooke Park last week. Both teams taking on St Pats had 4 – 0 victories.

Both Yr 5 and 6 teams are tight for numbers. We have around 30 players in each group but have opted for entering three teams and asking players to play more games, having more game time and time on the pitch, rather than having numerous substitutes and players standing on the sidelines for two teams. It’s wonderful to see and hear stories around the sense of community that is developing with kids keen to play two or even three games and being excited to play with the whole gamut of kids in the program.

Wet Weather

With so much inclement weather about, there have been a number of field closures for training and games in recent weeks. When we host matches we try to have a decision made by the Friday before the fixture, but often we rely on the hosting schools to provide information regarding field closures and will let those affected by closures know as soon as is possible. For different sports there are different ways of checking for field status and game cancellation.

Football – check the phone where you’d normally receive SMS from Redlands. We will send an SMS if fields are closed or game situations change.

Yr 5/6 Rugby – check the phone where you’d normally receive SMS from Redlands. We will send an SMS if fields are closed or game situations change.

AFL – check the phone where you’d normally receive SMS from Redlands. We will send an SMS if fields are closed or game situations change.

Rugby Sevens – check website blinkm.co/IPSHA and follow prompts for Koola Park.

Hockey – check website blinkm.co/IPSHA and follow prompts for your match venue.

Netball – check website blinkm.co/NSNA for up to date information.

CIS Cross Country

Our top 15 runners went the distance last week against the very best of NSW Independent School’s endurance athletes. Eastern Creek proved pretty tough and the fierce competition was apparent right from the outset. It’s hard to pick personal bests in Cross Country as the courses and conditions vary from carnival to carnival and course to course. It’s clear though that some of our runners performed brilliantly and mixed it with the elite. Sofia Thorne (Yr 6) finished seventh, only narrowly missing the NSWPSSA Championships. Isaac Brooks and Lola Brasler also impressed finishing 11th in their respective races.

Amelie Dewar 35th, Finn Morton 38th, Hannah Morton 26th, Lara Farrell 35th, Eva Osborne 28th, Felicity Schlederer 30th and Flynn Keiran 28th all did well to finish in the top half of their super competitive fields.

Pink Sock Round at Macquarie University 23 June

Unfortunately, due to the inclement weather this week, the sporting grounds at Macquarie University are closed on Saturday, and we have had to cancel our Redlands@Home Pink Sock Charity Sports Round in support of Breast Cancer Network Australia. Some sports have been able to relocate their matches to other venues and students are still encouraged to wear their pink socks to all games this weekend. (Please check Redlands Pulse to find updated match times and venues.) Students and parents are still welcome to bring baked goods to venues to share with the community and collection tins will still be made available at these locations.

Photos

We love photos and showing off your great action shots from Sports fixtures on Saturdays. If anyone has any pics or takes any, I love to use them to showcase our current teams and past teams on the rolling display in Dunnet Hall. Please send me the pics, or a link or even pop them in on a USB (it will be returned) to the Sports Office.
