Redlands Cup

Two of our Kindergarten students, Jemima Joyce and Saskia Williams along with Annabel Grinham and Jonathan Burton from Yr 1, participated in the Redlands Cup on Sunday 9 July in Thredbo.
Our prep students competed with courage and resilience and most of all they had fun participating in their events.

Annabel, Jemima and Saskia came second in the Division 6 Alpine GS Girls team event.
Jemima, Saskia and Jonathan also participated in the Sydney  Interschools Race week in Division 6 on Monday 10 and Tuesday 11 July in Thredbo.
Jemima came 22nd and Saskia came 24th in the Division 6 Girls Alpine GS Ski event out of 26 Kindergarten to Yr 2 girls.
Jonathan came 31st in the Division 6 Boys Alpine GS event out of 37 Kindergarten to Yr 2 Boys.

Saskia also participated in the Division 6 Girls Ski Cross event. She came 14th out of 21 Kindergarten to Yr 2 girls. This result means Saskia will be competing at the State Championships for Ski Cross, Division 6 in August.

Congratulations to all those who skied over the three-day period. We are super proud of you all.

Jeans for Genes Day, Friday 4 August

1in 20 children faces a birth defect or genetic disease, like cancer, cystic fibrosis, and life-threatening metabolic disorders. That’s 12 kids born every minute worldwide. Money raised from Jeans for Genes Day events help scientists find treatments and cures for these children.

The families of these children are used to hearing words like “incurable” or “lifelong effects”. It doesn’t have to be this way. Right now, the Children’s Medical Research Institute are working on gene therapy to find cures for previously incurable genetic diseases. Kids just want to be kids, but instead of playing sports with their friends or catching butterflies on a sunny day, these kids are getting liver transplants, taking dozens of medications, or getting their next dose of chemotherapy.

Your support helps the scientists at Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI) find cures, so these kids and millions more like them can go back to being kids. CMRI scientists ask the difficult questions in order to gain the important answers. This knowledge enables them to light the spark of discovery and to create a healthier future for all children.

On Friday August 4, Redlands House and Prep students and staff are encouraged to wear ‘a touch of denim’ to school to support Jeans for Genes Day. Our wonderful parent community will be baking cupcakes for sale on the day. Students can buy a cake for $2 to help raise money for the CMRI.

If your child has after school sport, please ensure they wear their sandshoes, students can change into their sports uniform if they wish after school.

Week 3 Learning Conversations

We look forward to welcoming our parents into classrooms next week for Learning Conversations. These sessions provide our families with an opportunity to discuss Semester One reports. Staff will also be sharing what the focus is for learning this term. If you would like to have a discussion with any specialist or other a Learning Plus staff member, please ask the class teacher to invite them to your meeting.

Lost Property

You may have noticed that our Lost Property cupboard has disappeared! The decision was made to remove it as it had become a dumping ground for anything and everything, we were even finding food scraps in it. Already the amount of clothing and lunch boxes has built up to levels that are unmanageable.

I am putting out a request to any parent who would like to volunteer one afternoon a week to help us sort and return the lost property items to classes or take unnamed items to charity bins. If you are interested and would like to lend a hand, please call, email, or chat to Karin Alfonso at Prep Reception. Thank you in advance for helping us.

Wellbeing Lunchtime Activities

Ms Fiebiger has once again pulled together a fun and supportive term of wellbeing activities for our students. The timetable is visible around the Prep School so I would encourage our families to have a discussion with your children about what they would like to attend. A big thank you to Ms Wales (Annabel’s mum, One Blue) who continues to come in and take the Crafty Kids Club. If there are any other parents who would like to take a lunchtime activity, please talk to myself or Ms Fiebiger.
