Year 11 Industry Day

On Wednesday Year 11 had their very valuable Industry Day experience where they had the opportunity to:

  • Familiarise themselves with a workplace;
  • Gain an understanding of the range of professional roles that exist within an organisation and how these are projected to change in the future;
  • Learn about the ‘soft skills’ employers regard as important when recruiting, and
  • Engage in networking with members of the organisation.

I had the opportunity to accompany the students to Snap Inc led by Redlands parent Katherine Clement. Mr Jeffrey Mesina, one of our Year 5 teachers, joined me for this fabulously productive and inspiring day, which culminated in the students using SnapChat to survive a zombie apocalypse – the winning team was made up of Joshua Farrant, Filip Feller, Yumeto Lee, Harry Ashby and Rory Howe. Students collaborated together using a design framework shared with them by members of the Snap Inc team. They learned from Katherine about how the organisation works, its values and mission. She shared a secret new marketing campaign with the students and garnered their opinion on a range of topics impacting young people – so important given the main demographic of SnapChat being 13-24  year olds. Students learned from a diverse group of Snap Inc employees and had the opportunity to zoom into the Santa Monica office to meet with three American interns who are in their final years of university. It was a really fun day – with a fantastic view of Sydney harbour in a plush city-setting – and we appreciated the generosity and fabulous spirit that Katharine and her team, brought to the Redlands participants.

A huge thank you to all of our Year 11 Industry Day partners, many of whom were Redlands alumni and parents:

  • ABC
  • Australian Payments Plus
  • Carmichael Thompkins Property Group
  • Carroll & O’Dea Lawyers
  • First Sentier Investors
  • John Holland
  • Macquarie University Psychology
  • MHDP Architects
  • ResMed

Giving Day

On Wednesday 21 August we are excited to launch our major philanthropic campaign, Giving Day. Our Giving Day campaign supports the High Country Campus expansion and establishes another important means-tested scholarship in honour of Redlander Coralie Amos OAM

Giving Day promises to be a fantastic day of celebration that will have a transformational impact for our students. I look forward to the Redlands community coming together on the day where we’ll have 24 hours to reach our giving target of $400,000. Thanks to the incredible support of our matching gift donors, every donation on this day will be tripled, increasing the impact of everyone’s contributions significantly.

For more information about our Giving Day and how you can get involved, please visit the Foundation section or our website.

Big Science Competition

The Big Science Competition is a 50-minute online competition testing scientific knowledge, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Run by Australian Science Innovations (ASI), the same organisation that runs the Junior Science Olympiads, the Big Science Competition is distinguished by challenging questions that set scientific principles in real-life contemporary contexts which require students to demonstrate understanding of how theory applies in authentic, real-world situations. Due to the complex nature of the questions, the students invited to participate had to demonstrate prior high achievement in Science and/or receive a teacher nomination.

Student results have been published on their Year Group pages in Note Day.

Celebrating Book Week (Week 5)

During week 5 this term, the Library team will be celebrating Australian School Library Day, a significant event across Australian schools.  Conveniently, it is wedged within Book Week, which celebrates the love of reading.

The entire week will be all about the incredible resources that school libraries offer, highlighting the importance of qualified library staff and the impact libraries have on the school community at large.

All week, students can take part in the festivities and share in the joy of literature within Roseby Library as well as some timetabled classes.
