Participation
At today’s Term 3 Cocurricular Assembly we had the opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge the many and varied cocurricular contributions our students have made at the School over the past two terms. From service to sports, public speaking to performing arts, our Redlands students involve themselves in so many different activities and shine in so many different ways. And while today we specifically recognised some of the outstanding individual, team and group performances in these areas, I would like to especially praise those who might not win an award but who still participate with pride for their school and passion for their activity. In particular, I want to acknowledge the Yr 12 students who have continued participating in their cocurricular activities all the way through this last term of their schooling. Their leadership and commitment sets an example for all other students at the School to follow.
In recent conversations with Yr 12 students, a number of them have mentioned that one of the highlights of their schooling experience is the relationships they develop with students across the different Year Groups. I have witnessed many of these interactions in recent weeks, whether it is when a small group of Yr 7 students, who participated in the musical, run up to our Yr 12 Arts Captains in the playground as if they had just seen a long-lost friend, or the beaming smile one of our junior athletes has on their face after one of our Yr 12 competitors stops to congratulate them on their performance at the ISA Athletics Carnival. I am certain that these interactions are not just highlights for our Yr 12 students, but they are also highlights for these junior students, as well.
ISA Athletics
On Tuesday, I had the great pleasure of attending the ISA Athletics Carnival at Homebush. These athletes who ran, jumped and threw on the day chose to take on this “extra” sports commitment between seasons and compete for the School. Redlands not only had its largest team in recent memory but also achieved some of its best results ever placing 2nd overall in the Division 1 Junior Girls, 2nd overall in the Division 1 Intermediate Girls, 2nd overall in the Division 1 Senior Girls and 2nd overall in the Division 1 Senior Boys. Congratulations to the Junior Girls, Intermediate Girls and Senior Boys who all won their respective 4×100 relays and the following students who won individual events on the day: Leopold Colin (Yr 10), Zachary Johnson (Yr 12), Emma Mahon (Yr 9), Emmi McDonald (Yr 8), Gus Miller (Yr 9), Gabriel O’Sullivan (Yr 12), Cameron Pascoe (Yr 11), Phoebe Rathbone (Yr 10), Lulu Simpson (Yr 10), Lauren Smith (Yr 8), Ellis Teudt (Yr 11), Olivia Vigneault (Yr 8) and Alexandra York (Yr 10). A special mention must be made to Alex York who broke five (yes, five) ISA records on the day. What an amazing achievement! And lastly a big thank you to Mr Walker, Mr Ellis and all of the Sports Department and coaches who assisted with Athletics this season.
Snowsports
Last week we also had a large number of students competing at the Australian Interschools Snowsports Championships at Perisher. These students have progressed through States to represent the School on the national stage. Once again, Redlands ruled the slopes with our students competing across age groups and disciplines. We had a large number of students finish in the top three in various events and a special congratulations must be made to the following students who placed first in either an individual or team event during the Championships: Tim Goerner (Yr 12), Braydon Wessels (Yr 11), George Murphy (Yr 9), Nick Goerner (Yr 9), Zeke Weir (Yr 9), Billy Thomas (Yr 8), Harrison Fung (Yr 8) and Ethan McFarlane (Yr 7). A special thank you to Mr Campbell and all of the teachers who have assisted with Snowsports throughout the season.
Spring Fair
The Redlands Spring Fair is now just a couple of days away and I know many parents are busily preparing for what is a special day on the school calendar. A huge thank you in advance to all of you who have volunteered your time to assist on the day. Parent involvement and support is one of the main reasons why the Redlands community is so special. The weather forecast looks good (spring has definitely sprung) and I know the excitement across the school is building. I look forward to seeing many of you on the day. Sorry, no dogs are permitted at the Fair.
Important Student Health and Safety Notice: Spring Fair
Parents are advised that there will be First Aid provided at the Spring Fair this coming Saturday, but our First Aid provider will not have access to medication or medical equipment held by the School for student use.
Therefore, it is essential that any student who requires an Epipen or any other medication brings this with them on the day.
