This Head of Preparatory School page will consist of general information from the Head of Preparatory School.
Happy Father’s Day
The wet weather didn’t dampen the lovely spirit of Father’s Day morning last Friday on the Junior Campus. After some delicious treats for breakfast, fathers accompanied their children into the classrooms for some collaborative learning time. Yr 2 created an “iDad” where they brainstormed some qualities that best-described their fathers. Yr 1 enjoyed some rotational activities where dads were spoilt with music and massages, read books together, constructed board games and had portraits sketched of one another. Some Kindergarten classes made paper airplanes and colourful ties which the dads promised to wear for the whole day. Thank you to the Junior Canteen, the Facilities team, Secondary students for the musical entertainment and Yr 6 students who assisted with the handing out of tasty treats.
Author Visit
On Monday 2 September the Preparatory School students welcomed Frances Watts, who is the author of a large number of children’s books. She has written numerous picture books, novels for Upper Primary as well as for an older audience. She spoke to all of the Kindergarten, Yr 1 and Yr 2 students about what it means to be an author and what her work life involves. Frances was especially good at encouraging them to think about where to get ideas from for their own writing and what to do once they had the ideas. She read from her books, explained how she works with the illustrators and editors and enthused about the ‘wonders of words’. The students were highly engaged, extremely courteous and asked well-considered questions. As she left, Frances commented upon how much she had enjoyed her visit. We certainly enjoyed hosting her and we look forward to welcoming her back to Redlands. Thank you to Mrs Roberts, our Teacher Librarian, who consistently and thoughtfully selects authors who inspire and generate excitement about Literacy.

Important Medical Information
Please be reminded that as per the Camp Information Letter, all prescribed medicines that students would normally take in a 24 hour period must be handed to, and discussed with, our Teachers’ Aide Mrs Simes, in the days before we leave for camp. This allows us to ensure we have the information we need to support your child appropriately. Appointment days and times are listed below. Please contact Prep Reception to arrange a time.
- Thursday 12 and Friday 13 September between 7.55-8.25am and 3.15-4.00pm.
- Monday 16, Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 September between 7.55-8.25am and 3.15-4.00pm.
Should you need to make an appointment, please bring the following:
- Your child’s medications in their original packaging, in a named zip-lock bag.
- A completed Short Term Medication Authority Form for each medication your child will need to take.
Please note that for students with anaphylaxis and asthma, we do appreciate that this medication will need to remain with students until the morning we depart for camp. As such, please hand this to Mrs Simes on the morning we leave for camp. Please contact Mrs Sharp or our classroom teacher if you have any questions about the information above.
