PREP SCHOOL UPCOMING EVENTS
International Day
Redlands will be celebrating International Day next Tuesday. All our students are encouraged to wear something or bring something that either reflects their own cultural identity or from a culture that they can relate to or find interesting. The idea of the day is to celebrate the cultural diversity that makes Redlands such a special place full of families from all over the world.
If you would like to share something culturally unique with the students, please come and have a conversation with me or the classroom teacher. Due to COVID guidelines, unfortunately, no food will be allowed to be shared on this day but we strongly encourage sharing art, music or traditional dress.
Term 2 Uniforms
Students will return to school in Term 2 in their winter uniforms. Please refer to the Student Planner for full winter uniform explanation or to Redlands Pulse. It is really important to ensure that blazers are worn every day in winter and that black school shoes are worn to school. Can I please ask families to use blue hair ribbons and scrunchies and also girls are to only wear plain studs or sleepers with no other jewellery please. This can be worn on weekends or after school.
If your child has lost a piece of clothing, lunch box or drink bottle, please check the Lost Property cupboard by the end of term. The leftover items will donated to the second hand clothing uniform sale.
Redlands Arts Luncheon
We are delighted to host the Redlands Arts Luncheon in celebration of the long history of Creative Arts education at Redlands that includes Visual Arts, Drama, Music, Dance and Design & Technology. This Luncheon is open to all Redlands parents and the wider community and provides a lovely opportunity to once again gather face-to-face as a community in celebration of the Creative Arts at our School. With limited seating, this will be a popular event that sells out fast. Group bookings for tables of 10 are already a popular choice. For further information and to purchase tickets please click here.
Part of this Luncheon will be the launch of the Belinda Oxley Scholarship, a means-tested scholarship. Belinda was a much-loved teacher at Redlands who influenced so many students in the pursuit of the Arts, and more closely the Visual Arts. The Prep School has been asked to participate in a Design a Card Competition to support the Scholarship fundraising. Our staff have been working on their designs in class but we would love any families to also participate in this competition at home. If selected, this artwork will be featured in a special pack of ten blank ‘All Occasion’ cards. These cards will go on sale in Term 3 and all proceeds from the cards’ sale will support the Belinda Oxley Scholarship.
For your artwork to be considered, please consider the following criteria:
- Artworks must be created on one of the following sizes – A3, A4, A5 or A6. We encourage the use of the entire surface of the paper or canvas.
- Use of any mixture of art mediums or materials such as acrylic paint, watercolour, coloured markers, ink, oil pastels, crayons, prints, mixed media, paper collage or digital art.
- Please ensure the vibrancy, intensity and saturation of the material (vibrancy, intensity and saturation may be lost in the scanning or reproduction of the artwork).
- As the cards will be used for ‘all occasions’, we encourage students to consider themes such as (but not limited to):
- Landscapes
- Animals
- Floral and botanical images or design
- Still life (scenes of everyday life)
- Abstract or Modern Art
- Geometric patterns and shapes
- When planning your artwork, consider the reason how and why these cards will be used (ie: Thank you, Well Wishes, Sympathy, Apology, Get Better Soon etc)
- Consider the artwork’s composition, colour, negative space, focal points etc.
- A previously created artwork may be submitted.
All submissions must be received by the Junior or Preparatory School office by Wednesday 21 April (Term 2, Week 1). Artwork selection will take place on Thursday 22 April. Selected artworks will be announced in the following week’s Note Day and all artworks will be featured on Redlands Pulse in Term 2.
Students who have their artwork selected will receive a free pack of cards and surprise gift!
By submitting an artwork, you are consenting to its use in a fundraising activity. Please note that Redlands may alter, edit or embellish any submitted artwork to fit the design requirements of the card. All artworks will be returned to students after the selection process.
Library Family Borrowing
Thank you to all families who continue to borrow books from the Library with their canvas bags. I am happy to announce that we will return to face to face borrowing in Term 2. I do ask that we continue to adhere to social distancing and using hand sanitiser when entering the Library.
