Head of Preparatory School

As the term draws to a close, I sit here and reflect upon my first term at Redlands. I smile as I look back on my first Zoom session to meet staff, I laugh as remember the Prep students drawing love hearts all over their iPads on our first Assembly Zoom and I admire the work by hard working staff to ensure online learning was meeting the needs of students to the best of their ability. My biggest smile comes from reflecting upon the warm welcome into the Redlands community as a whole that I have received. Thank you. After taking a breather for a few weeks, I am excited about what Term 3 will bring across the Junior Campus academically, pastorally and physically.

I had the privilege of meeting members of various Parents Associations over the last few weeks and from these meetings I discovered a common theme. After home learning, a lot of our families would like to know more about different areas of the curriculum, what they are and how we teach them with the thinking into how they can support their children at home. We have listened to this message and from next term (Week 2), we will be posting some short videos on Redlands Pulse for our families.

In response to questions regarding this term’s Wellbeing program, our Dean of Students, Ms Sam Kourakis, has produced a short vodcast, (a podcast with video), for parents to access from Redlands Pulse by clicking this link. The vodcast summarises the main ideas and social-emotional skills that we have focussed on to reinforce resilience. The vodcast also includes tips for responding to your child’s worries as well as some parent/carer resources. We hope this information helps you, at home, to support your child with consistent messages, language and understandings.

Watch this space for further information on upcoming ‘vodcasts’.

The School Executive will be meeting at the end of term to review our procedures that have been in place for COVID-19 restrictions. Changes to our Redlands guidelines will be communicated to the community by Mr Webber before Term 3. We wish to thank all parents and carers who have respected the Redlands guidelines we have had in place to ensure the health and safety or our students, staff and community.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish Tiia Pyky, one of our amazing Teacher’s Assistants in Redlands House, all the best as she takes 12 months maternity leave. Tiia is a well-respected and highly loved member of the Redlands House team and we will miss her and look forward to meeting her little one soon.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our families a lovely break. If you end up on top of a mountain or under the stars, enjoy some down time together.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. For more information, please click here.
