Yr 1 Excursion to Vaucluse House
Yr 1 went back in time this week during a visit to the historic Vaucluse House. They toured the 19th Century mansion, learned about its history, the team of servants who worked there and what life was like for the children of the house. They got hands on with some Victorian games in the garden and even had a go at washing clothes the old-fashioned way. The day was full of fun and games as they learned how Victorian children lived and played.
Below is a recount of the day by Eisen Chan.
Have you ever been to a fancy house called Vaucluse House? If you have never heard of it or been there, yesterday all of the Year One classes went to Vaucluse House. Once we arrived, we had our recess.
A while later, we played games from the 1850s. Some of the games were skittles, skipping, rolling a hoop, quoits and croquet.
After that, we went inside a massive house. It belonged to a very rich family called the Wentworth family. They had 40 servants and each of them had a job. One of the rooms was a very fancy room called the drawing room. It was where the children couldn’t go until they were 15. The children had to stay in a room called a nursery.
Some of the differences were that they didn’t have running water and most of the games’ materials were wood or rope. The grownups had three mattresses. One was stuffed with hay, another with horse hair and the top one with feathers. The servants just had one hay mattress. Something that’s the same is that we still do skipping.
I liked going inside the house so I could learn more about each room.
Prep Presentation Day
After two years of remote performances, we are very excited to announce that Prep Presentation Day will take place in the Dunnet Hall on Tuesday 6 December. We will be using the free online Trybooking system to allocate seating and to ensure equity, the number of seats will be limited to two per family. There may be opportunity to request extra tickets closer to the event but we respectfully request that you do not book more than 2 tickets on Trybooking. Any remaining seats that are available when Trybooking has closed will be distributed on a first come, first in basis.
The Trybooking system will be accessible from 7.00pm Friday 11 November. The site is locked until this time and will close on Friday 18 November at 7.00pm. No bookings can be made after this time.
Yr 2 Disco
Yr Two have begun practising their moves for the upcoming Glow in the Dark Disco. We can’t wait for this special event, put together for our wonderful Year 2s, as they come to the end of their time in Prep.
