STEAM Week
Our STEAM week inquiry investigations ended on a high note with a virtual visit from wildlife scientist Dr Pirotta. Our curious students were inspired by Dr Pirotta’s passion for science and her latest research work right here in Sydney Harbour, as well as in Antarctica and Madagascar. The highlight was student question time with our student Q&A panel of Adyant Ashok, Millie Barnes, Thor Kazimierczuk, Mia Johnston, and Max Papageorgiou, with questions like: “How do you know if a whale is male or female” and “What other animals eat krill?”. Dr Pirotta shared how students can play their part to conserve our wildlife and how they can be a part of a Citizen Science program right here in Sydney Harbour “Wild Sydney Harbour”.
A big thank you to all the staff and especially to Mrs Anagnostu for their hard work and enthusiasm in making STEAM Week such
Important OOSH Messages
Thanks to Miss Ana and her team, OOSH is growing and each afternoon the program is rich with activity and fun. As our numbers have grown, we thought it timely to remind both our students and families about some of our playground and pick up guidelines that we have in place to keep everyone safe. As you know, the Prep playground can become a very busy space in the afternoons with sport, senior students training and general movement. To ensure that our OOSH students are safe, and we are stay within our ACECQA regulations please note the following:
- Only OOSH students are permitted on any of the play equipment after 3.10pm.
These students will have a coloured wrist band.
- Prep and Junior School students are separated into different areas when afternoon tea has been served. Please note that siblings may be separated as well if in different sections. An OOSH educator will take the senior students to either the Junior School equipment to play or to the Junior School room allocated to them.
- Parents are to enter and leave via the Junior School Reception Door only to pick up their child as well as when exiting. Please press the buzzer to enter Reception. The Prep Reception door will be closed and locked from 4pm each afternoon.
- The rules around devices that apply during the day at school also apply at OOSH. There is a no device rule in place at OOSH. Some senior students have access to the OOSH iPad for homework purposes, but this is only approved when an OOSH educator is sitting with a student and the student has explained their reason why they need to device. The OOSH educators can ring parents if needed at any time.
Thank you for supporting the OOSH team.
A Message from Jacqui in the Canteen
A little reminder to please let your child know if they are having an ordered lunch or have their own lunch and recess each day. We are experiencing an increased number of students who are coming to school with no lunch unfortunately. If you are unsure of the flexischool process of ordering, please don’t hesitate to contact our canteen supervisor Jacqui who is more than happy to explain the process.
Term 4 After School Sport Program
Thank you to all families who have used our new registration process for the Term 4 after school sports program. Registrations will be open until 10am, 31 August.
All information regarding after school sport program can be found on Pulse. Please make sure you are familiar with the information before registering as each term we provide a different opportunity for students who would like to try a sport.
A few considerations to make before you register:
- This program is not part of the normal school day. It is a voluntary program that offers different choices each term to give a ‘taste’ of sport.
- If your child would like to develop their skill in a particular sport after the term ends, please talk to the providers as to how to join their community programs. The school program is for opportunity and experience only.
- ‘unlimited spaces’ on the registration site will remain until the site closes.
- As previously communicated, no extra spaces can be provided due to limited school space as well as ensuring we meet the regulations for staff to student ratios.
