Junior School COVID Update of Events

As a School, we continue to review every scheduled event and evaluate each event in line with the current NSW Health guidelines.

Following the necessary cancellation of Yrs 3-5 camps this year, we are finalising a separate day of activities for each of these Year Groups with our camp providers, the Outdoor Education Group, who will run games and activities for the students on site with a COVID-safe risk management plan.

Our annual House Cross Country Carnival is still scheduled for Thursday 17 September and the revised plan will be to have it organised by Year Groups with each Year Group heading to the course at Cammeray Golf Club for their respective race and then coming back to school before the next Year Group heads out.

In relation to interschool sport, I was part of a meeting this week with other IPSHA Primary Heads and Term 4 school sport is being planned within local areas so Redlands would only play schools in and around the lower north shore which is akin to the current guidelines for community sport. Of course, these plans will be subject to the climate and guidelines of the time and then be reviewed by the School’s management team before final approval and support.

House Football Competition

Our Principal, Mr Webber, and I really enjoyed supporting last Saturday’s inaugural House Football tournament which took place on the Junior Campus oval. It was wonderful to see over 200 girls and boys voluntarily sign up to take part and represent their House and the sense of both House and School spirit was palpable. It was also wonderful to see a number of students take part in the first competitive game and enjoy the experience of being part of a team.

As has been the case at varying points this year with school sport, the creative thinking of our Sports department to provide some physical activity after Saturday interschool sport is acknowledged and there was already talk amongst the students of seeing if another House interschool activity might be organised next term.

Yr 5 Leadership Day

On Wednesday, Yr 5 students experienced their first inspirational Student Leadership incursion led by Cameron Brown from Explore Discover Act. Students were engaged in challenges and reflections that helped them understand and build awareness and appreciation of their ability to lead. Students were provided with opportunities to connect their learning to leadership environments with transferable skills, attitudes and behaviours. The course outcomes dovetailed well with our own Three Pillars of Aspiration for Students: 21st Century Thinkers and Learners, 21st Century Attitudes and being 21st Century Participants, encouraging them to become active problem solvers and responsible risk takers. We are looking forward to Cameron’s second visit in Term 4.
