Strictly Ballroom – The Musical
Like many in our Redlands community, my family and I thoroughly enjoyed last week’s Secondary School Musical, Strictly Ballroom, which stirred many emotions and drew a standing ovation at the end.
Whether on stage performing, backstage as part of the production crew, or playing with great poise and collaboration in the Music pit, the experience of being part of a production of this magnitude will leave long-lasting memories for the 120 students from Yrs 7-12 involved, many of whom I remember fondly from their time with us in the Junior School.
I know from speaking to a number of school students I saw there that they have been inspired to audition for future musicals and I extend my congratulations to Mrs Daley and her team of staff, parent and student helpers and supporters on delivering a spectacular show.
Staffing News
We are delighted to welcome Mrs Sarah Ellis next week as our full time Junior School Sports Administrator, whilst Mrs Michael is on maternity leave. Mrs Ellis is a highly experienced Sports Administrator and has recently moved to Sydney having worked at Newcastle Grammar School for the last seven years. Mrs Ellis will be contactable via the juuniorsport@redlands.nsw.edu.au Sports email address or on 9908 6454. Mrs Ellis and Mrs Michaels will work alongside each other next week as part of the handover process.
Next term, we also welcome Mr Brad Hemopo as Ms Longworth’s PDHPE maternity leave cover teacher. Mr Hemopo has taught in both New Zealand and Australia and has been working as a casual teacher at Redlands over the last few months. Mr Hemopo and Ms Longworth will work alongside each other for the first week of Term 2 as part of the handover process and Ms Longworth will complete reporting information for her students for Term 1.
Please join me in welcoming Mrs Ellis and Mr Hemopo as we simultaneously wish Mrs Michael and Ms Longworth all the very best ahead of the impending arrivals of both of their second child.
We also wish Mr Peter Latimer all the best ahead of his impending wedding to his partner, Shaun. As Class 3L parents are already aware, Mr Latimer is away next week for his wedding and we wish them both a lifetime of happiness and cherished memories and look forward to welcoming Mr Latimer back for the start of Term 2.
International Day – Wednesday 10 April (Week 11)
As mentioned last week, our Junior Campus will celebrate International Day next Wednesday 10 April in the final week of term. This will be a time for our community to join together to celebrate both our rich cultural diversity and international awareness. The event aligns with similar events in Early Childhood and Year Groups will also be incorporating international perspectives in curriculum lessons. Teachers will be contacting parents who may be able to share their knowledge and experiences through a range of activities.
As always, I am sure that the School will be awash with vibrant colour as we celebrate the day with students encouraged to wear national costume or colours from any chosen country on this day with a reminder that enclosed shoes and sun-safe clothes should be worn.
Easter Service
Next Friday 12 April, parents and families are cordially invited to join us in Dunnet Hall for our annual Junior Campus Easter Service. The Service will begin at 9.45am and is always a special opportunity for us to come together as a community to give thanks for the term and to celebrate Easter. The two hour parking zone comes into effect at 9.00am but please allow time for parking as Allister Street may be busy.
Battle of the Bands Rock Group
Tomorrow night, our Junior School rock bands will join counterparts in the Secondary School to take part in the annual Battle of the Bands event with proceeds going towards the School’s Cambodia Service trip later in the year. I have heard them rehearsing and they are sounding fantastic and I know that the crowd will enjoy them kick off the show at 6.00pm tomorrow night! Best of luck to Joshua Colpani, Federico Gazzilli, Aneke Golowenko, Krishna Gupta, Jasper Houchell, Alexandra Jones, Conrad Matic, Hannah Scott, Max Taylor, Juliet Treloar and Callum Zhu.
