Head of Junior School
This week I had the pleasure of working with our Year 6 students to understand some of the leadership lessons we can learn from the life of Nelson Mandela. As we discussed Mandela’s pursuit of justice, even in the face of tremendous adversity, I was struck by the Year 6 cohort’s grasp of both the importance of opposing unfair behaviour and the importance of working towards a fairer society. One of Mandela’s most compelling and inspiring qualities was his ability to forgive those who wronged him, a lesson that we would all do well to remember. Mandela’s legacy encourages us to build a community where equality, justice, and forgiveness are at the heart of our actions and interactions.

Learning Conversations
As previously mentioned there will be an opportunity for you to meet with your child’s class teacher in the second week of Term 3. A booking schedule will be sent out next week on Thursday. The focus of the meetings will be to discuss student progress, as set out in Semester 1 reports, and to revisit learning goals for the second half of the year. The meetings will take place across the whole of that week.
Semester 2 Clubs
Please note that due to parent teacher meetings in Week 2, Junior School-based clubs (Tuesday) will start in Week 3 of Term 3. The only exception to this is Representative Debating which begins in Week 1. There are still some spots available for Semester 2 clubs. Please use the following link if you wish to sign up your child to one of these activities. Please note that if you signed up for a Semester Two club in Term One, your place is confirmed and there is no need to re-enrol.

Redlands Community Concert at Bupa Aged Care Mosman 16 June
17 Redlands students from Year 2 to Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed performing at Bupa Aged Care, Mosman on Sunday 16 June. They brought enjoyment to the residents with singing, ballet, guitar, violin, viola, cello and piano. Despite technical glitches with the venue’s audio system, Redlands students demonstrated high quality performance and excellent stage etiquette. The gorgeous Junior Ballet danced to near silent music with great musicality and adaptability, so did the Choir which sang amazingly well with little music accompaniment.
Special thanks to Claire Wallis, Administrator of the Redlands Dance Academy who gave up weekend time to help out, and to Anne Marie, Redlands former strings teacher who came to provide piano accompaniment and helped tuning instruments.
A lovely afternoon with our students truly representing Redlands’ sense of sharing, giving, and community.
