Assembly Theme

In this week’s assembly we hosted a visit from the Redlands Secondary School Captains, Jazz Black and Isaac Brooks, who introduced the Yr 12 theme for the year – Step Beyond. The benefits of stepping beyond one’s comfort zone were reinforced by our School Captains, Pax and Amelie, who shared experiences of when they had done this and the positive impact it made on them.  In our School’s context we believe that finding opportunities for our students to step beyond their comfort zone is paramount for their personal growth and development. It’s in those moments of discomfort that we truly discover our capabilities and potential.

Our Year 5 students have definitely had the opportunity to ‘step beyond’ through their participation at this week’s camp in the Southern Highlands. For each student this will look different; it may be by participating in unfamiliar activities such as outdoor team-building exercises or engaging in group challenges that encourage them to collaborate, take risks and overcome obstacles. Or it might just be facing the challenge of being away from home for a few days. We hope that through these experiences, students broaden their horizons, discover new talents and develop important life skills that extend far beyond the camp environment.

The Junior School camp experiences form one element of Redlands Outdoor Education program and as they move into their Secondary School years, students from Year 7 have the opportunity to access the High Country Campus located outside Jindabyne in the Snowy Mountains region. The facility offers the greatest array of possibilities for both curriculum fieldwork and experiential learning. The campus is utilised for both outdoor education camps and also Redlands Winter School, which offers Year 10 students a unique opportunity to combine their studies with Snowsports training.

To learn more how to support the school’s efforts to expand the extraordinary High Country Campus, please contact the school’s Director of Development, Mrs Dana Casimaty, dcasimaty@redlands.nsw.edu.au or visit High Country Campus Appeal.

Parents are encouraged to connect with your child’s class teacher if you are able to present or share your own cultural backgrounds and experiences utilising the knowledge we have in our community and connecting home and school further.
